We are seeking a motivated Materials Obsolescence (MO) Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing material and component obsolescence throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring continuity of supply, minimizing production disruption, and supporting product sustainment activities.
The role requires close collaboration with Product Engineering, Component Engineering, Supply Chain, Supplier Engineering, Program Management, and cross-functional Obsolescence Management Teams to proactively identify obsolescence risks and drive effective resolution strategies. ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesObsolescence Risk Management- Monitor obsolescence forecasts, End-of-Life (EOL) notifications, Product Change Notifications (PCNs), and supplier lifecycle updates impacting products and programs.
- Perform obsolescence assessments on Bills of Materials (BOMs) and identify components or materials at risk.
- Support product teams in evaluating the impact of obsolescence on product lines and production schedules.
- Work with Product Engineering, Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), Component Engineering, and site Obsolescence Management Teams to identify suitable drop-in replacements, alternate materials, and alternate sources.
- Evaluate technical compatibility and suitability of replacement materials or components.
- Support redesign initiatives when alternate solutions are not available.
- Process and support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and related change documentation required to implement obsolescence solutions.
- Maintain technical documentation, traceability, and system records associated with obsolescence resolution activities.
- Collaborate with suppliers to obtain lifecycle status, availability information, and continuity plans.
- Support Last Time Buy (LTB), bridge buy, and inventory planning activities for obsolescence mitigation. These terms are defined within the internal governance documentation.
- Partner with Supplier Engineering and Procurement teams to reduce supply chain risk.
- Ensure alignment with internal obsolescence governance guidelines and engineering processes.
- Verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, purchase order requirements, and product traceability requirements.
- Support audits and reviews by maintaining objective evidence, documentation, and process compliance records.
- Develop obsolescence risk reports, dashboards, and management summaries.
- Track key metrics related to risk exposure, resolution status, and program impact.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen obsolescence management processes
QualificationsRequired QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's Degree /Masters Degree/ Phd in:
- Materials Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Aerospace Engineering
- Or related engineering discipline
- 8-12 years of experience in:
- Materials Engineering
- Component Engineering
- Obsolescence Management
- Aerospace, Industrial, Electronics, or High-Reliability Manufacturing Industries
- Understanding of product lifecycle management and obsolescence principles.
- Experience performing BOM reviews and lifecycle risk assessments.
- Knowledge of EOL, PCN, redesign, alternate qualification, and lifecycle management activities.
- Familiarity with Engineering Change processes and configuration management.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements.
- Strong analytical and data management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or equivalent reporting tools.
- Aerospace or Defense industry experience.
- Knowledge of Obsolescence Management Systems (OMS).
- Experience working with global suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Exposure to lifecycle databases, PLM, ERP, or material compliance systems.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Effective stakeholder management.
- Project coordination and prioritization skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
