About the RoleTechnology is the foundation of BlackRock’s business. As an Application Engineer (Java Back-End), you will design and build resilient, enterprise-scale systems that support BlackRock’s global post-trade operations. You will focus on delivering high-quality software with an emphasis on reliability, performance, and clean engineering practices.
This role is well suited for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical problems, working on business‑critical platforms, and continuously improving how large-scale systems are designed and built.
About the Team – Post Trade AccountingPost Trade Accounting is a core engineering area within Aladdin and a significant investment for BlackRock.
- Builds and maintains systems that ensure accurate, scalable, and efficient accounting across global operations
- Expanding into data analytics and real-time data pipelines using Snowflake, Redis, and Kafka
- Works closely with Product, Operations, and Engineering partners to deliver business‑critical solutions
- Operates in an agile, collaborative environment that values technical depth, quality, and innovation
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance back-end services using Java 11+ and Spring Boot
- Build and evolve microservices and event-driven systems to process large-scale financial data
- Participate actively in design discussions, code reviews, and architecture reviews
- Develop and support data integration and pipeline components across Snowflake, SQL Server, and real-time streaming platforms
- Implement and optimize Redis-based caching solutions for low-latency data access
- Contribute to end-to-end delivery; support lightweight UI updates when required, in collaboration with front-end teams and AI-assisted development tools
- Promote best practices in code quality, testing, automation, and performance tuning
- Continuously improve technical craftsmanship, problem-solving, and system design
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to ensure solutions align with product and business needs
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 4+ years of professional experience developing applications in Java
- Strong knowledge of Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and enterprise integration patterns
- Solid experience with SQL Server, including data modeling and performance optimization
- Hands-on experience with Redis for caching or data persistence
- Experience with Kafka or similar messaging platforms for real-time event processing
- Familiarity with Snowflake and data pipeline concepts (ETL, batch vs. streaming)
- Understanding of clean architecture, maintainable code, and production‑ready systems
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Exposure to front-end technologies such as Angular or React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and HTML/CSS
- Experience with containerization or cloud-native environments (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, or GCP)
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
- Python scripting experience for automation or data analysis
- Experience using AI-assisted or agent-based development tools and a general understanding of large language models
- Interest in financial systems, accounting platforms, or investment technology
