Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large size projects.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Approves and signs off on work.
  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients.
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.
  • Participates in development of technical proposals.
  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.
  • Oversees and coordinates HVAC system design for complex projects.
  • Develops and implements energy-efficient HVAC solutions.
  • Mentors and guides junior engineers in HVAC design principles.
  • Ensures compliance with local and national building codes and regulations.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate HVAC systems with other building components.
  • Conducts site visits to assess existing HVAC systems and recommend improvements.
  • Stays current with industry trends and emerging technologies in HVAC design.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field + 15years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in HVAC
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems, design principles, and energy-efficient solutions
  • Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Trane TRACE)
  • Strong understanding of building codes and ASHRAE standards
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills
  • Superior communication and presentation abilities
  • Demonstrated experience in managing mid to large-size HVAC projects


Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • LEED AP certification
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices and renewable energy systems
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers
  • Active participation in professional organizations (e.g., ASHRAE, USGBC)
