The Giving engineering team has opportunities in a wide range of areas including development, design, search, platform, test, quality, big data, front end and back-end. As a core participant of our team, you’ll estimate engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations and triage production issues. You need to be dynamic, collaborative and curious as we build new experiences, improve existing products and develop distributed systems powering the world’s largest e-commerce and payments websites at a scale few companies can match.

Giving Engineering Team is responsible for several of PayPal’s flagship products, including, Donate button, Donate API. Consumer giving, PayPal fundraisers, give at checkout, disaster campaigns, Charities, Charity compliance, Charity experience, Partner fundraising, Grants payout and Partner experiences. Job Description:

You will be responsible for working with a team of engineers in design, development, testing, and deployment of a range of products on web and mobile platforms. A successful candidate will have an established background in developing customer-facing experiences, strong technical ability, excellent project execution skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.  

 

Your day-to-day:  

As a Front End Engineer, you will: 

  • Be able to independently design, code and test complex features, as well as lead and mentor other engineers, help build engineering teams

  • Drive both technology and product innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development

  • Be a technical subject matter expert and represent the full internal and external capabilities of the platform.

  • Lead complex architectural discussions that involve multiple systems

  • Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery.

  • Drive integration efforts and lead critical work streams of strategic initiatives sponsored by senior executives

  • Drive engineering excellence through CI/CD

  • Proactive response in identifying and troubleshooting integration or technical issues.

  • Write tests for the existing and newly created code to maintain compatibility

What you need to bring: 

  • Design, develop, and maintain frontend applications using JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, React, and other relevant technologies.
  • Experience with web front end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, Webpack, Bootstrap etc
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • 2-5 years experience in building successful production software systems.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to implement user-friendly features and interfaces.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following industry best practices and coding standards.
  • Optimize frontend applications for maximum speed, scalability, and responsiveness.
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to established standards.
  • Troubleshoot and debug frontend issues, providing timely resolution and maintaining system integrity.
  • Stay up to date with the latest frontend development trends, tools, and technologies, and recommend best practices to enhance team productivity and product quality.
  • Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance, support, and knowledge sharing to foster their professional growth and development.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Demonstrate a high level of curiosity, passion for technology, pride of ownership and strive for excellence.
