About the Role 

We are looking for a scientist with a broad academic interest in social science who is keen on supporting scientists to publish their research in effective ways. This job offers a unique opportunity to start your editorial career with an exciting journal, which you can help shape and develop to ensure its scientific and commercial success.

Responsibilities 

  • Actively managing the publication process of assigned manuscripts in a growing open access journal

  • Actively working with the Heliyon team to develop the journal’s processes and content

  • Building effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and Elsevier

  • You will also have the opportunity to be a stakeholder in innovative Cell Press and Elsevier initiatives that shape the future of science communication.

  • This is a full-time editorial position based in our Chennai office.

  • In future, this position may require travel to conferences to engage with researchers.

Requirements 

  • A relevant doctoral degree in social science

  • Deep knowledge and research experience in one of the following areas - finance, economics, information science, and a willingness to learn about and work on the other sections like society and politics, rural development, business and management, education etc. Knowledge/experience in statistical analysis will be an added advantage.

  • Broad scientific interests and a passion for helping scientists publish their work.

  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize, focus, and achieve desired goals.

  • Creativity, decisiveness, attention to detail, willingness to experiment, and a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Customer-focused and attentive with good written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Excellent interactive and team working skills as well as the ability to work independently.

  • Emphasis on quality and monitoring of all aspects of day-to-day publishing operations and actively address improvements where required.
