The summary above was generated by AI

The Reporting, Insights & Analytics team is on a mission to harness the power of data to guide strategic decisions and improve business operations. Reporting directly into our Chief Data Office, this team collaborates closely with C-Suite executives and Business Unit leaders to develop products, refine processes, and generate actionable insights on a global scale.

As a member of this team, you will play a key role in delivering scalable, high-quality business intelligence solutions that power decision-making across Sales & Pipeline, Engagement Economics, Capacity Planning, and other core operational areas. You will contribute to the development of reports, dashboards, and data models that help leadership monitor performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and drive continuous improvement.

This role requires strong analytical thinking, foundational BI engineering skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders. It is ideal for someone who is passionate about data, eager to grow within a modern cloud data environment, and motivated to contribute to enterprise-wide analytics transformation.

Role Overview

As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will support the design, development, and optimization of enterprise reporting and analytics solutions within Kroll’s Azure-based data ecosystem.

You will work closely with senior BI engineers, data engineers, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into intuitive dashboards and well-structured semantic models. This role provides hands-on exposure to Power BI development, data modeling best practices, and structured Agile delivery.

You will contribute to building reliable, scalable, and trusted reporting assets that enable leadership to make confident, data-driven decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the development and ongoing enhancement of Power BI dashboards and reporting products aligned to business priorities, including clear KPI definitions and decision-oriented storytelling.

  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI semantic models using dimensional modeling best practices (e.g., star schema) to improve performance, usability, and consistency across reports.

  • Develop reusable, well-documented DAX measures (including time intelligence patterns where appropriate) and optimize calculations and model design to ensure responsive, scalable reporting experiences.

  • Perform data shaping and transformation using Power Query (M) with an emphasis on maintainability and repeatability of data preparation steps.

  • Use SQL to extract, validate, and analyze data from enterprise systems; partner with upstream teams to resolve data quality issues and reconcile metrics.

  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to understand upstream pipelines and data products, provide reporting requirements, and influence data structures that best support analytics and semantic modeling.

  • Implement and support governed access patterns, including Row-Level Security (RLS) where required, and partner with platform/tenant stakeholders to ensure the right balance of access and control.

  • Manage operational reliability of published assets (refresh requirements, dependencies, and impact), using platform capabilities such as endorsement, lineage, and refresh options (including incremental refresh where appropriate).

  • Contribute to BI engineering standards: workspace organization, naming conventions, documentation, and lifecycle practices (dev/test/prod promotion, controlled releases, versioning), consistent with enterprise lifecycle management approaches.

  • Document KPI logic, data definitions, semantic model design decisions, and report usage considerations to support governance, transparency, and auditability (not just “how,” but “why”).

  • Partner directly with business stakeholders to clarify requirements, translate business questions into analytic specifications, and communicate tradeoffs clearly; Kroll job postings emphasize the importance of translating technical details into business terms and proactively surfacing issues before they reach downstream consumers.

  • Participate in Agile delivery routines (planning, refinement, and iterative delivery) and proactively manage your workstream to deliver high-quality outcomes on time.

  • Mentor or support the development of more junior analysts/report developers through reviews, pairing, and reusable assets, consistent with enterprise enablement practices

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics Engineering, Reporting, or a related data-focused role, with demonstrated ownership of end-to-end BI deliverables (requirements → model/report build → validation → release → iteration).

  • Strong hands-on experience with Power BI, including semantic model design, DAX, Power Query, visualization, and management/security

  • Strong SQL skills and comfort working with relational data structures; ability to validate metrics and troubleshoot discrepancies.

  • Solid understanding of dimensional modeling principles (facts/dimensions, star schema) and how model design impacts performance and usability in Power BI.

  • Experience working in or alongside a cloud-based data platform environment (Azure preferred); familiarity with common Azure analytics components is a plus (ex. Data Factory, Synapse, and Data Lake.)

  • Practical knowledge of data governance fundamentals (definitions, documentation, lineage/impact awareness) and a commitment to accurate, trusted reporting.

  • Experience with CI/CD processes for Business Intelligences is a plus (ex. Deployment pipelines, Git)

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical teams and business stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

What you need to know about the Chennai Tech Scene

To locals, it's no secret that South India is leading the charge in big data infrastructure. While the environmental impact of data centers has long been a concern, emerging hubs like Chennai are favored by companies seeking ready access to renewable energy resources, which provide more sustainable and cost-effective solutions. As a result, Chennai, along with neighboring Bengaluru and Hyderabad, is poised for significant growth, with a projected 65 percent increase in data center capacity over the next decade.
