About the role

In this role, the successful candidate will play a key part in advancing AGL’s energy transition strategy by identifying, assessing and progressing low carbon generation growth opportunities. The position leads commercial development activities and manages contracts for both new and existing projects through to Financial Investment Decision (FID) and Notice to Proceed (NTP).

This role is responsible for shaping and delivering high capital value generation projects for submission to the AGL Board and/or external financiers, including oversight of commercial development budgets of $2–10 million per project.

The position also contributes to future portfolio planning within the Integrated Portfolio Management team, ensuring AGL is strategically positioned to identify, evaluate and execute power generation opportunities in a rapidly evolving energy market.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading negotiations of complex commercial agreements with third parties, including NSPs, government bodies, OEMs and BOP providers.

  • Developing and delivering investment business cases aligned to AGL’s strategy, including managing key inputs to the financial model, obtaining and disseminating market insights and stakeholder mapping.

  • Preparing high quality CIRC/Board papers, bid submissions and contributing to grant applications, representing the Commercial team as required.

  • Evaluating and preparing commercial instructions for the AGL legal team.

  • Coordinating interfaces between the Commercial team and the Construction, Operations and Development teams to ensure alignment on key contracting requirements.

  • Defining and communicating each project’s commercial strategy and contract structure, managing this through to NTP.

  • Conducting market analysis to identify trends, opportunities and validate project site characteristics.

  • Supporting AGL’s market advocacy by contributing to industry forums and regulatory submissions.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong negotiation capability with experience managing high value procurement and complex commercial contracts.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

  • Proficiency in financial analysis and comfort working with complex financial models.

  • A solid understanding of energy markets and the value drivers behind largescale generation projects, particularly renewables and storage.

  • Experience in the commercial and/or legal structuring of largescale renewable generation projects such as wind, solar or storage (highly desirable).

  • Experience in the power industry or related development roles.

  • Knowledge of corporate project approval processes through to FID and NTP.

  • Exposure to the full project development lifecycle from concept through to investment commitment.

We’d love to see your applications by Friday 27th March 2026.

What you need to know about the Chennai Tech Scene

To locals, it's no secret that South India is leading the charge in big data infrastructure. While the environmental impact of data centers has long been a concern, emerging hubs like Chennai are favored by companies seeking ready access to renewable energy resources, which provide more sustainable and cost-effective solutions. As a result, Chennai, along with neighboring Bengaluru and Hyderabad, is poised for significant growth, with a projected 65 percent increase in data center capacity over the next decade.
