About the role
AGL has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Contract Manager to join AGL’s Construction – Contract & Commercial team, supporting the delivery of large‑scale energy infrastructure projects across AGL’s Energy Assets portfolio.
This role is based in our Melbourne or Sydney offices, with flexibility to work from AGL offices and occasional travel to project and operational sites as required. You’ll be part of a high‑impact, collaborative team working at the centre of AGL’s transition to a more sustainable energy future.
What you will be doing
As a Contract Manager, you will provide end‑to‑end contract and commercial leadership across major construction and energy projects, ensuring strong commercial outcomes while managing risk, compliance, and stakeholder relationships.
Key aspects of the role include:
Managing and administering major contracts including EPC, O&M, split contracts and other delivery models, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and AGL governance frameworks
Identifying, managing and mitigating commercial risks and opportunities across the project lifecycle, including oversight of variations, claims, disputes and contract amendments
Leading the resolution of escalated contractual issues and disputes, ensuring accurate documentation, timely escalation and alignment with contractual rights and obligations
Contributing to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of contracting strategies, standard agreement templates and commercial frameworks aligned to AGL’s Operating Model
Partnering closely with Portfolio Directors, Senior Project Managers, legal, technical and project delivery teams to support successful project execution and protect AGL’s commercial position
Preparing and presenting contract status reports, KPIs, risks and contractor performance insights to senior leaders and the Construction Leadership Team
Supporting sourcing activities, tender processes and contract finalisation during the construction phase, ensuring commercial outcomes are achieved within project timelines

What you will bring
To succeed in this role, you will bring strong commercial acumen, deep contract management expertise and the ability to operate confidently in complex project environments:
Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Commerce, Business, Law or Quantity Surveying, with additional certifications highly regarded
Ideally 10 years’ experience in a similar contract or commercial management role
Demonstrated experience working on large‑scale, high‑value construction or energy infrastructure projects
Extensive end‑to‑end experience in contract strategy development, negotiation, formation and administration
Strong knowledge of construction and energy contracting models, including EPC and O&M arrangements
Proven capability managing claims, disputes and complex commercial negotiations
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and key stakeholders
Strong strategic and commercial mindset, with the ability to translate business objectives into effective contracting outcomes
Experience operating effectively in highly regulated, complex organisational environments
