The Lead Veterinarian will oversee veterinary medical care, mentor team members, implement policies, and ensure top client satisfaction in pet care. This role includes performing surgeries and managing medical records, while fostering a collaborative environment.
At Chewy, we strive to become the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents and our partners - vets and service providers - alike! Our success is measured by the happiness of the people and pets we serve, not simply by the amount of pet supplies we deliver. That's why we continue to think of outside-the-Chewy-box ways to delight, surprise, and thank our loyal pet lovers!
Our Opportunity:
We at Chewy seek an experienced and creative Senior Corporate Counsel to join our rapidly growing animal health legal team! The successful candidate will collaborate closely with veterinarians, pharmacists, and compliance teams to support our veterinary and pharmacy businesses. This position will provide end-to-end support for Practice Hub, our proprietary and rapidly evolving prescription management and ordering platform. The person in this role will also support negotiations with pharmaceutical companies and other vendors in the animal space. This is a permanent, full-time hybrid in-office role for our Plantation, Florida, or Bellevue, Washington metro area office. The position will report to the Director, Associate General Counsel for Chewy Health, who is based in Bellevue, WA.
What You'll Do:
  • Identify, interpret, and apply applicable legal and regulatory requirements and determine their implications for the business.
  • Provide guidance regarding developments in federal and state laws regarding the company's animal healthcare/pharmaceutical verticals.
  • Partner with the business to craft and implement Chewy's prescription service hub for animal health and related services provided by and to the veterinary community.
  • Draft and negotiate tech, pharmacy, and healthcare contracts, including SaaS agreements, Terms and Conditions, Pharmaceutical Master Purchase Agreements/Vendor Terms, and Master Service Agreements.
  • Draft customer-facing online and offline agreements, including end-user license Agreements, Privacy Policies, and Terms of Use.
  • Review and assist in the implementation of all healthcare-related tech projects within the organization.
  • Partner with various business clients to develop actionable risk mitigation strategies from the beginning of projects to their "launch" dates, keeping in mind legal, privacy, and compliance issues.
  • Perform legal analysis of current and proposed business structures and drive legal workstreams for related launches for the business.
  • Perform regulatory analysis of potential new business lines, providing the business with pragmatic guardrails.

What You'll Need:
  • JD and 8+ years proven track record practicing law in large US law firms or in-house at major US or European companies, demonstrating continual growth and the ability to succeed in those environments.
  • Strong academic credentials and qualification to practice in at least one US state, with the ability to become licensed in Florida or Washington State as in-house counsel.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as needed, flexing the approach as the matter requires.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain sophisticated legal issues clearly and simply.
  • Outstanding analytical skills with a business-centric focus on risk.
  • Excellent time management skills and experience leading to a diverse workload and challenging stakeholder demands.
  • Be an excellent teammate, self-motivated, able to demonstrate a history of optimally resolving sophisticated legal issues, and able to successfully deliver sound and clear legal risk analysis advice in a fast-paced, iterative business setting!
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and build consensus among various team members while maintaining a compliant approach.
  • Ability to accommodate working with East Coast time zones and occasional travel.
  • Experience in healthcare is required.
  • Experience working in e-commerce, commercial transactions, and/ or SaaS is required.

What you need to know about the Chennai Tech Scene

To locals, it's no secret that South India is leading the charge in big data infrastructure. While the environmental impact of data centers has long been a concern, emerging hubs like Chennai are favored by companies seeking ready access to renewable energy resources, which provide more sustainable and cost-effective solutions. As a result, Chennai, along with neighboring Bengaluru and Hyderabad, is poised for significant growth, with a projected 65 percent increase in data center capacity over the next decade.
