Management Level Definition — Senior/Lead (Custom CPQ)
Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas, methods, and configuration standards. Works on complex problems where analysis requires evaluating multiple technical, commercial, and operational factors. Leads and provides expertise to functional project teams and the IT development team, and participates in cross‑functional initiatives (Sales, Solutions, Finance, Ops, IT). Applies advanced subject‑matter expertise to solve complex business challenges and be regarded as a domain expert on custom capability, process improvements, configuration governance, and policy establishment. Represents the organization with internal and external customers. Exercises significant independent judgment to determine the best approach and achieve objectives; provides mentoring and direction to lower‑level employees.
What you’ll do:
- Design and implement Custom CPQ processes, tools, and analytics end‑to‑end, including definition, documentation, performance, controls, backlog management, and continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain governance frameworks, best practices, templates, and modelling standards for Custom CPQ.
- Define and implement margin and pricing guardrails, approval matrices, auditability/SOX-aligned controls, and deal‑governance processes.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert for Custom CPQ product modelling—including configuration rules, guided selling logic, pricing/cost/margin structures, and approval frameworks.
- Translate unique customer requirements into scalable product models, pricing rules, and configuration logic.
- Partner with IT/Engineering to design and deliver CPQ solutions, including configuration, pricing logic, new features, and integrations with other corporate systems.
- Ensure solution quality through UAT planning/execution, scenario validation, issue triage, and defect resolution.
- Consult with Sales, Portfolio, Finance, and other stakeholders to align solution configurations with commercial strategies, cost models, and revenue recognition requirements.
- Communicate complex configuration logic and technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences; create solution design docs, playbooks, and training & enablement materials.
- Lead testing strategy for new CPQ features including regression testing, edge-case validation, pricing accuracy, approvals, and document generation.
- Identify, monitor, and mitigate risks, dependencies, and cross‑team impediments impacting delivery.
- Review and accept completed work, ensuring adherence to the Definition of Done and alignment with business expectations.
- Create, refine, and continuously groom product backlogs across multiple workstreams.
- Write clear, detailed user stories with strong acceptance criteria emphasizing usability, business value, and system interoperability.
- Collaborate closely with the Scrum Master and development teams for sprint planning, refinement, reviews.
- Prioritize features, user stories, and technical architecture decisions based on business impact and capacity.
- Provide timely decisions to unblock development teams and maintain delivery momentum.
- Support release planning and coordinate with change management, training, and other stakeholder teams to ensure smooth deployments.
- Develop and deliver actionable insights and metrics and communicate progress toward key goals and metrics.
- Use analytics and AI to inform decision‑making, identify improvement opportunities, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Mentor and upskill team members and build capability maturity within the CPQ function.
What you need to bring:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent.
- 8–12+ years in sales/commercial operations or solutioning roles, including 5+ years hands‑on CPQ modelling for complex/custom solutions (services preferred).
- Strong understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum/Kanban).
- Familiarity with tools like Azure DevOps, Jira, Rally or similar
- Ability to break down complex problems into manageable, actionable components.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting terminology and financial outputs, advanced pricing methodologies & strategies, discounting, margin protection, and their implications for revenue recognition and deal profitability
- Understanding of Services CPQ platforms and integrations with CRM (e.g., Salesforce) and ERP (e.g., SAP S/4HANA) for orderability, fulfilment, and billing.
- Strong analytical and statistical skills, with the ability to model cost/margin scenarios, evaluate deal economics, and perform sensitivity analyses.
- Advanced Excel required; SQL or scripting languages are a plus.
- Strong grasp of HPE sales operations practices, approval workflows, and governance frameworks.
- Experience with CPQ or enterprise workflow systems in a product ownership role experience designing and implementing processes and tools
- Product Owner certifications (e.g., CSPO, PSPO, SAFe PO/PM) preferred.
- Working knowledge of APIs, data structures, and payload formats (JSON/XML)
- Proficiency using SPIRA, Jira, Rally or similar tools for requirements management, test design/execution, defect triage, and UAT leadership.
- Experience with regression testing, release management, and quality assurance for complex configuration and pricing logic.
- Understanding of software development lifecycles, UX design principles, and customer research techniques.
- Ability to convert business requirements into technical user stories with strong acceptance criteria.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills who can engage cross‑functional and regional stakeholders and present options at senior leadership levels.
- Proven ability to lead functional workstreams, coach team members, manage ambiguity, and deliver under tight timelines in a global environment.
- Passion for improving seller and customer experience through well‑designed systems and processes.
- Full professional proficiency in English language.
