Purpose
Work on the data plumbing from D365 and other core systems into a single, trustworthy Microsoft data platform so Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations stop fighting fragmented data.
What the role does
- Builds and operates data pipelines from D365 F&O, D365 CE/CRM, Power Platform (Dataverse) and other sources (files, APIs, SharePoint) into the enterprise data platform (Fabric/Synapse/Data Lake).
- Designs and implements star schemas, data lake house structures, and semantic models used by Power BI and analytics consumers.
- Implements data quality checks, reconciliation rules, and data lineage so that “Finance’s numbers” and “Ops’ numbers” are consistent.
- Tunes performance and cost (partitioning, indexing, caching, storage tiering) so reporting is fast and Azure spend is controlled.
- Works with the Data Architect to standardize patterns (CDC vs batch, SCD, slowly changing dimensions, etc.) and keep the data model coherent.
- Builds or assists with key Power BI datasets and a small number of critical Finance and Supply Chain dashboards until a dedicated BI developer is justified.
Skills & experience
- 5+ years as a data engineer on the Microsoft data stack (D365 + Azure + Power BI).
- Strong experience with the full Microsoft data platform: D365 entities, Dataverse, Azure Data Factory / Fabric pipelines, Synapse or SQL DW, Power BI.
- Excellent SQL plus at least one scripting language (Python or PowerShell).
- Hands-on work consolidating data from ERP/CRM into a central model.
- Comfortable working directly with business stakeholders on metric definitions and Power BI report behaviour, not only back-end data flows.
