What you’ll achieve

As a SQL Database Administrator you will be part of our highly successful Professional Services team, you will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance, security, and performance of enterprise database environments that support both internal solutions and customer-facing healthcare systems.

This is a hybrid role combining core DBA functions (installation, tuning, backup, and security) with proactive customer support, including on-site analysis and remediation of issues impacting performance or data access. You'll also collaborate with application developers and project teams to support the delivery of robust, scalable, and performant data solutions aligned to business and clinical needs.

Working with an extended highly skilled team, you will be making a profound impact throughout the healthcare sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor and maintain SQL Server databases across internal and customer environments.

  • Ensure database availability, performance, and recoverability through proactive monitoring and optimisation.

  • Respond to and resolve SQL-related incidents, performance bottlenecks, and production issues.

  • Lead or support the installation, configuration, and upgrade of SQL Server instances and databases.

  • Implement and maintain data backup, disaster recovery, and data retention policies.

  • Ensure data security through proper access controls, encryption, and patch management.

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and customers to:

    • Design new data features and data structures

    • Analyse and troubleshoot application/database performance

    • Support integration and upgrade projects

  • Provide user training and support, especially for healthcare-specific workflows and data usage patterns.

  • Support cloud-based deployments using Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instances.

Here’s what you’ll need to succeed:Essential Requirements
  • 7–10 years' experience administering and maintaining MS SQL Server environments (2008 and above).

  • Strong technical proficiency in Azure SQL, SQL Managed Instances, and hybrid cloud deployments.

  • Solid understanding of T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and database optimisation.

  • Experience with database security, access control, and data protection best practices.

  • Hands-on knowledge of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and other diagnostic tools.

  • Ability to analyse complex technical problems and clearly communicate solutions.

  • Experience supporting production environments in 24/7 or mission-critical settings.

  • Experience in the healthcare sector (preferred), especially involving EMRs, diagnostic platforms and clinical applications.

Desirable Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field

  • Experience of liaising extensively with external and internal clients.

  • Extensive experience with additional database technologies (MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL Oracle, MongoDB)

  • Experience in software implementation projects is preferred

  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, Microsoft Azure)
