While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.
About the Role:
We're building the future of our industry and need an exceptional Director of Engineering who can lead teams, amplify impact, and shape the technical vision. What you'll be doing (ie. job duties):

• Build, mentor, and grow high-performing engineering teams.
• Partner x-functionally to define the vision, roadmap, and strategy.
• Shape technical direction, architecture, and operational excellence-ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Drive engineering rigor: set standards, metrics, and processes for quality and delivery.
• Inspire team culture-promote innovation, ownership, and high standards.
• Balance strategy and execution across ambiguous, high-stakes initiatives.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

• 5+ years managing engineering teams, with experience managing senior leaders.
• 10+ years architecting, delivering, and scaling software products or services.
• Track record of forming culture, maintaining velocity, and maintaining operational discipline.
• Skilled at framing technical trade-offs and translating business needs into engineering outcomes.
• Comfortable both in guiding hands-on technical work and elevating long-term strategic thinking.

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
Pay Range:
$350,200 - $412,000 USD
