At Avnet Silica we are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our Software & Services EMEA team. This is a remote position and we welcome applicants from candidates located in Italy or Spain.
As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for increasing demand creation, revenue and gross profit for Avnet Silica in the assigned areas of:
- Embedded Software and Services, primarily around Microsoft and FOSS solutions with focus on Embedded Firmware, Kernel and Device Drivers
- Technology focus on Vision and Security
- This role is crucial in strengthening and developing Avnet Silica’s supplier relationships for Cloud Services and Embedded Software at all levels. Close alignment with Sales, Technical Sales, and the Supplier Management team is required to optimize sales and demand creation activities and ensure project success.
What you will be doing:
- Represent Avnet Silica’s system-level and architectural consulting approach and software-centric solution offering in front of internal and external customers.
- Determine, promote and orchestrate the optimal strategy to ensure project success and maximize demand creation ROI by leveraging Avnet Silica’s internal and external embedded solution ecosystem
- Maintain, expand and leverage work with FAE, supplier and 3rd party technology partners to provide added value to customers in specialized technology areas. Maintain relations and evaluate services of these partners
- Align strategically with Embedded Software Vendors, relevant Key Suppliers and 3rd parties on technical, customer, and marketing levels.
- Execute engineering services in area of expertise, optionally on a commercial level
- Coordinate with the sales team and suppliers to prepare technical presentations and training for internal (Solution BDMs, Sales, FAEs) and external customers, and support seminars as a technology expert presenter.
- Deliver deep-dive technology consulting to selected customers, optionally on a commercial level, to enhance revenue and demand creation figures and position Avnet Silica as a technology leader with customers and suppliers.
- Develop and improve relevant skills through self-learning and participation in training and conferences to position Avnet Silica as a best-in-class technology partner with customers, partners, and suppliers.
What we are looking for:
- Electrical engineering or computer science degree (M.Sc. / Dipl.-Ing. or equivalent), ideally with a focus in software/algorithm design, computer science or embedded system design
- 4+ years' experience preferably within an R&D-driven environment in the electronics, software or semiconductor industry or comparable (preferably software AND hardware related) or a proven history of community-focused (upstream) embedded FOSS development.
- In-depth knowledge about OS, especially Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, Linux Build Systems (e.g. Yocto), Linux development and debugging at system and application level for Linux and Windows system
- Knowledge about ARM SoC hardware (SoC bringup, architecture, internal and external bus systems, power management, schematic design, debugging)
- Specific MPU knowledge around Qualcomm, NXP and AMD (Zynq UltraScale+) is a plus
- Good facilitation abilities (presentations, meetings, workshops, etc.) and
- Willingness to go the extra mile to provide best-in-class solutions to our most important customers
- Good communication / documentation skills in English
- Willingness to travel occasionally (mostly within Europe) for customer meetings, conferences and alignments.
