Key Responsibilities 

R&D, Product Development & Sustain 

  • Lead research, concept design, prototyping, and validation of control and automation solutions. 

  • Own controls engineering deliverables across the NPD lifecycle, ensuring technical, quality, and compliance objectives are met. 

  • Support Sustain activities by implementing and adapting standardized R&D programs for other product variants. 

  • Translate customer and market needs into robust control architectures and product features. 

  • Support field trials, prototype testing, and design validation. 

Controls Design & Development 

  • Design and develop PLC programs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA interfaces (FactoryTalk View, WinCC). 

  • Create standardized, modular control philosophies, sequences, and libraries. 

  • Implement redundancy strategies to ensure product robustness. 

  • Independent identification and resolution of complex and significant electrical engineering problems. 

Instrumentation & System Integration 

  • Select, integrate, and validate field instruments and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profinet, OPC UA, Canbus). 

  • Support design for manufacturability (DFM) and reliability (DFR). 

Field Support & Service Collaboration 

  • Support and, if necessary, guide Service and Quality Assurance teams in analyzing field issues by defining test procedures, conducting tests, and, if required, traveling to installations. 

  • Perform technical evaluation of change requests for standard components. 

  • Assist in market launch of new products, providing support to Sales and Service teams for special issues or customer inquiries. 

Collaboration & Global Coordination 

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop integrated product solutions. 

  • Engage with international stakeholders and suppliers for product platform integration. 

  • Represent controls engineering in design reviews, risk assessments, and innovation workshops. 

  • Travel globally for prototype testing, field validation, and NPD alignment. 

Mentoring & Knowledge Sharing 

  • Mentor junior engineers in controls design, product development, and Sustain practices. 

  • Promote a product-focused mindset within the team. 

 

Skills & Qualifications 

Must-Have 

  • Master’s / Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Electronics & Communication Engineering. 

  • 4–6 years of controls engineering experience, including R&D, NPD, or Sustain exposure. 

  • Expertise in PLC/HMI/SCADA platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and IEC 61131-3 languages (Ladder, FBD, STL, SCL). 

  • Hands-on instrumentation experience and familiarity with industrial communication protocols. 

  • Knowledge of NPD processes, Sustain activities, toll-gate reviews, VOC analysis, and competitor benchmarking. 

  • Strong English communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. 

Nice-to-Have 

  • Experience in water/wastewater or process industry R&D projects. 

  • Familiarity with IoT/IIoT-enabled control architectures. 

  • Exposure to DFM/DFR practices and advanced data handling (SQL, VB, C). 

  • Experience mentoring engineers in product-focused and Sustain environments. 

This role requires effective management of tasks and priorities along with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Effective communication in English is essential.
