Job Description

The team you will join: Trust & Safety team

Trust & Safety is dedicated to safeguarding our platform against financial crime and ensuring the protection of our legitimate customers. Leveraging cutting-edge machine learning, real-time transaction monitoring and data analysis, our team is responsible for building controls to keep Wise accounts safe. 

What will you be working on:

  • Build a globally scalable real-time payment fraud prevention system to keep Wise as a secure environment for our customers.

  • Utilise machine learning techniques to identify potential risks associated with customer activity.

  • Foster a strong partnership between our investigators and the product team to develop solutions that leverage the expertise of fraud prevention specialists.

  • Not only meet the requirements set by regulators and auditors but raise the standard in the global financial crime prevention industry.

 

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, guiding the team on architectural design, code reviews, and best practices.

  • Serve as a technical expert for the Trust & Safety domain, working together with Product Manager to create vision and roadmap. 

  • Helping to shape the future of Wise’s financial crime prevention squad, focusing on the safety of customer funds balanced with great product experience.

  • Drive initiatives to improve the reliability and scalability of our services

  • Lead the development of new solutions, such as a creation of new real-time check engines, customer facing controls and external vendor integrations.

 

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of engineers (junior and senior), fostering a supportive environment that promotes technical growth.

  • Work closely with other Engineering Leads, Staff Engineers, and Product to shape the team's and squad's technical roadmaps.

  • Help the team navigate complex priorities and make trade-offs to deliver solutions that reduce risk and unlock growth.

  • Act as a key representative of the team, collaborating with stakeholders across the company.

 

What do you need?

  • Strong background in software engineering, with experience designing and building complex, scalable systems. Expert in delivering reliable and robust services in a production environment.

  • Comfortable working on a complex domain and guiding a team through technical challenges.

  • Ability to lead by example, inspiring your team to produce high-quality, maintainable code.

  • Product Mindset - strong sense of ownership and the ability to think beyond technical implementation to understand how your work impacts the business and our customers.

  • Experience working closely with product and stakeholders to define requirements and prioritise the most impactful work.

  • Track record of mentoring and coaching engineers at all levels.

  • Excellent communicator, capable of articulating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

 

Nice to Haves: 

  • Experience leading a team in a payments, financial crime, or other complex, high-stakes domain.

  • Prior experience working on a team with a global, distributed setup.

  • Experience building systems that serve enterprise clients at scale.

  • Previous experience scaling teams and systems for global reach.
