Job Purpose

The Head of Engineering will lead the technical development and lifecycle management of FL Smidth’s crushing and screening portfolio for the small mining portfolio. This role is responsible for driving product standardization, cost optimization, and design improvements while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and performance standards. The Head of Engineering will collaborate closely with Product Line Managers, supply chain, and manufacturing teams to deliver a competitive, efficient, and sustainable product offering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategy to standardize designs across crushing and screening products.
  • Reduce complexity in components and assemblies to improve manufacturability and serviceability.
  • Create and maintain design guidelines and engineering standards.
  • Identify cost drivers in current designs and implement value engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to optimize material and component costs.
  • Drive design-to-cost methodology in new product development.
  • Oversee engineering activities for new product introductions and upgrades.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and compliance requirements.
  • Manage engineering change processes for legacy products.
  • Work with Product Line Managers to align engineering priorities with market needs.
  • Partner with manufacturing and supply chain to ensure design feasibility and cost targets.
  • Support sales and service teams with technical expertise.
  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering team focused on innovation and efficiency.
  • Develop talent through mentoring and training programs.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Integrate sustainability principles into design and material selection.
Required Skills & CompetenciesTechnical Expertise
  • Strong background in mechanical engineering, crushing and screening technologies.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and performance data.
  • Experience in product lifecycle management.
Cost Engineering
  • Proven experience in value engineering and design-to-cost principles.
  • Ability to identify and implement cost optimization initiatives.
Standardization
  • Track record of implementing design and process standardization across product lines.
Leadership
  • Ability to lead and develop engineering teams.
  • Strong people management and mentoring skills.
Project Management
  • Skilled in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Collaboration
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
Digital Tools

• Proficiency in CAD, PLM systems, and engineering analytics.
