Yahoo, with a strong foundation of 900 million users monthly, is in the midst of a renaissance—backed by substantial investment to drive meaningful, long-term growth, led by great products. Are you up for the challenge of writing a chapter in one of the biggest consumer product success stories in history? This won’t be easy, but if you’re motivated by huge opportunities, backed by an organization ready to invest in bold initiatives, and eager to build at scale, Yahoo is the place for you.
Identity platforms at Yahoo provide modern, secure identity offerings for consumers and businesses interacting with Yahoo systems. These platforms operate at massive scale, serving hundreds of millions of users every day, and power critical authentication, authorization, and account management capabilities across Yahoo products.
About the RoleWe are looking for a Full Stack Software Dev Engineer II to join the Identity organization. In this role, you will work across the stack to build secure, scalable, and user-friendly authentication and account management experiences.
In this role, you are expected to work independently on well-defined problems, own features or project phases end-to-end, and apply solid engineering judgment to deliver high-quality solutions. You will collaborate closely with frontend, backend, product, design, and QA partners, and act as a technical resource for less experienced engineers on the team.
This role provides strong growth opportunities toward senior-level responsibilities, including increased ownership, technical leadership, and influence on system design.
ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performance features across the full stack, including user-facing applications and backend services that power authentication, authorization, and account management workflows.
Develop modern user interfaces using React.js, TypeScript, and frameworks such as Next.js, with a focus on usability, accessibility, and internationalization.
Design and implement backend services and APIs (RESTful and/or GraphQL), ensuring correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
Apply security best practices across frontend and backend systems, mitigating risks such as XSS, CSRF, CORS, and common authentication or authorization vulnerabilities.
Own features or project phases end-to-end, from requirements and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
Write high-quality, maintainable code and comprehensive unit, integration and end-to-end tests using appropriate testing frameworks.
Contribute to large-scale distributed systems, improving scalability, reliability, observability, and operational efficiency.
Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical reviews, applying independent judgment and offering constructive feedback.
Act as a technical resource for teammates by sharing knowledge, reviewing code, and helping improve team engineering practices.
Debug and resolve production issues, and proactively identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and security.
BE / BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
4–6 years of professional experience building full-stack software systems.
Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks such as React.
Strong proficiency in Java programming.
Hands-on experience designing and building backend services and APIs, with a solid understanding of:
API design and integration
Data modeling and persistence
Authentication and authorization concepts
Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and performance optimization.
Experience writing unit, integration, and functional tests using frameworks such as Jest, Mockito, JMockit, Cucumber, or similar.
Good understanding of web technologies (HTTP, cookies, sessions, browser/server interactions).
Ability to independently develop solutions to moderately complex problems, evaluating trade-offs across performance, scalability, security, and maintainability.
Strong collaboration and communication skills in a cross-functional, agile environment.
Experience building or securing authentication, authorization, or user account management systems.
Familiarity with Identity standards and protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or SAML.
Experience with cloud platforms—Google Cloud Platform (GCP) preferred, or AWS / Azure.
Knowledge of backend-for-frontend (BFF) or API gateway patterns.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and production operations.
Exposure to accessibility (a11y), internationalization (i18n), and performance optimization.
Experience using AI-assisted developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code).
