The opportunity
Join our Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) Team as a Global Environmental Specialist! In this role, you will report directly to the BU Environmental Program Lead and act as a technical lead and subject matter expert for environmental risk assessments and chemical safety, including usage and storages of oil, oil farms and piping line system systems, including emergency preparedness and response, preventive measures and innovative alarm systems.
How you'll make an impact
Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and permits across operations, supporting local units to comply with it. Internally, will oversee implementation and maintenance of environmental policies and procedures tailored to specific operational needs, developing and implementing specific environmental instructions if needed
Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments and site evaluations to identify potential hazards and reduce the environmental risk to acceptable levels, defining and helping the units to implement effective risk control measures based on assessment findings
Plan and conduct internal and external environmental audits to identify areas for improvement. Collaborate with other functions and teams to propose specific action plans for findings in audits
Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes that impact environmental practices. Promote and implement HSE initiatives aimed at reducing the organization’s environmental footprint as well as drive behavioral change by implementing effective programs and best practices
Share feedback and insights to enhance overall environmental practices and strategies, as well as maintain relationships with the community, environmental groups, and key stakeholders (both, internal and external)
Investigate incidents and collaborate with teams to determine causes and implement preventive measures, as well as respond to environmental incidents and spills, coordinating mitigation efforts as needed
Define, develop and lead environmental improvement projects and programs to improve, among others, waste, water and energy management, serving as a role model to foster a culture of HSE learning and continuous improvement
Provide training and guidance on environmental regulations and sustainability practices to employees, define training needs related to environmental practices, prepare specific training material and conduct training sessions accordingly
Your background
Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
Several years of experience in health, safety, and environmental roles in the industrial or energy sector
Strategic thinking and planning skills to develop and define environmental policies and initiatives that align with corporate objectives and regional needs
In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, laws, and standards, with the ability to interpret and advise on implications for organizational strategy
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to effectively engage with diverse groups, including local teams, regulatory bodies, and environmental organizations
Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools for informing strategy development and tracking organizational performance against environmental goals
