As part of AGL’s Climate Transition Action Plan we have committed to closing our thermal assets and replacing them with renewable energy and battery storage. We have plans for 5 GW by 2030 and 12 GW by 2035.
As a Grid Engineer you will be responsible for providing technical support relating to grid connections for new
projects to the NEM from initial enquiry to R2 Model validation. This includes providing advice and support with engagement of external regulatory bodies, technical standards relating to the NEM and software modelling analysis.
You will also support in resolving grid compliance issues for current assets operating in the NEM when required.
The role will also provide subject matter expertise with respect to grid requirements for new technologies and how they could be deployed by AGL.
What you’ll be doing:
- Provide technical support relating to connecting new projects to the NEM, from initial
project concept through to handover post commissioning - Manage PSSE and PSCAD models and grid connection studies. Undertake necessary
technical assessments, analysis and reviews related to grid connection compliance standards - Support formal submissions to external regulators (TNSP & AEMO) and manage changes in regulatory requirements
- Work with key stakeholders to ensure that acceptable standards are in place and that
the operating risks are understood, communicated, and managed as appropriate - Support the execution of innovative engineering strategies for AGL that are integrated
with market and regulatory position to optimise AGL’s overall asset portfolio - Provide specialist technical support on new project development, existing plant
upgrades, delivery and growth initiatives - Collection of data and lessons learned from ongoing and recent projects and studies
- Develop strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (AEMO, TNSP, OEM’s, Consultants etc)
About You:
You will be an experienced Electrical Engineer / Power Systems Engineer with experience connecting generation assets to the NEM. You will have sound technical skills but also your ability to interact and influence outcomes with internal and external stakeholders will set you up for success.
What you’ll bring to the table:
- Power engineering knowledge related to renewable and grid technologies
- Experience using software modelling tools including PSSE Power Factory and PSCAD
- 3 to 5 years of experience in grid connection or power system consultancy space
- Ability to analyse highly complex engineering data and deal with ambiguity and
uncertainty, to achieve risk optimised decision making - Advanced communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
- The ability to work effectively on multiple concurrent projects
- Experience in connection application, generator registration and negotiation of generator performance standards
- Eligible for membership of Engineers Australia and Professional Engineering Certification
