The Group Manager - Power Development role will form part of AGL's Power Development Leadership Team with a mandate to meet targets set out under AGL's recently approved Climate Transition Action Plan (CTAP), which will transition AGL’s generation portfolio from thermal assets to renewable energy and storage. We are currently building a pipeline of projects to meet our targets of 5GW by 2030 and 12GW by 2035 and are looking for experience and talented people to join the team to deliver on these goals.
This role will contribute to the development and execution of AGL’s energy transition strategy by leading a Project Development team of Power Developers and Managers who will take projects to final investment decision. The Development team will need to coordinate internal and external resources throughout the development phases, using Power Development processes to implement complex projects within the NEM to meet time, cost, quality, risk, safety and project return requirements.
The Development team will be responsible for identifying and progressing renewable generation and energy storage projects by using disciplined techniques to develop projects and identify potential acquisitions.
What you’ll be doing

Managing a highly skilled project development team of 6-7 people.

Prioritising project development activity according to company need.

Working with a range of internal teams within AGL to progress development projects, e.g. Trading, Origination, Construction, Procurement.

Ensuring development managers have capacity and capability to:
-
Managing, identifying, and reporting on key development risks.

Coordinating and leading internal and external resources to obtain all permits and licenses required for the construction and operation of power projects with assistance from subject matter experts on issues (such as: securing land, environmental and planning approvals, grid connection and project design).

Monitoring and advising on development expenditures against budgets and progress against schedules.

Negotiating high value contracts for power plant construction, transmission connection, real estate, consultancies, and other agreements necessary to deliver power projects.

Developing business cases for the approval of power generation opportunities for Board approval in association with the analysis division

Ensuring that AGL’s competitive advantages are maximized by identifying new opportunities for acquisition and investment by AGL and managing due diligence of potential acquisitions.
What you’ll bring
-
Qualified Engineering, Development, Commercial or Project Management professional with strong technical and commercial experience in the development of large-scale renewable and firming generation projects, (such as wind, solar, storage or other firming projects) from project conception through to final investment decision and handover to the Construction team.

Significant experience in taking large scale power generation development projects to Final Investment Decision (FID), including:

Experience in development process from concept to investment commitment.

An understanding of energy markets and value drivers for large scale generation projects, in particular renewables and storage.

A strong understanding of financial modelling.

A deep understanding of NEM rules and connection requirements for projects.

Experience negotiating high value contracts.

Advanced leadership and mentoring capabilities.

Experience engaging with key external stakeholders and public representation in local communities.
