Citi is looking for an Intermediate Software Engineer to join its Consumer Operations Technology team and contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of critical application systems. In this role, you will work across the full development lifecycle — from analyzing system requirements and identifying enhancements to resolving vulnerabilities and supporting client-facing platforms. Your work will directly support the reliability, security, and performance of applications that matter to Citi's clients and operations.

 

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement system enhancements by analyzing existing application code and applying scripting tools to address functional and technical requirements.
  • Build and support customer-facing systems by consulting with users, clients, and technology teams to translate business needs into effective programming solutions.
  • Develop application components using fundamental programming principles, contributing to design specifications across the software development lifecycle.
  • Identify and remediate application vulnerabilities through structured security analysis, testing, and debugging to maintain system integrity.
  • Diagnose and resolve application issues independently, applying technical experience and established precedents to implement effective, lasting solutions.
  • Guide and coach junior analysts, sharing technical knowledge to strengthen team capability and delivery quality.
  • Assess risk considerations in technical decisions, ensuring application changes align with compliance standards and safeguard Citi's systems and clients.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in an applications development role within the financial services industry.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, Java, ETL processes, and SQL Server for building and maintaining data-driven applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex problems, evaluate options, and implement practical solutions with limited supervision.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven capacity to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt effectively to changing requirements in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.

 

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience designing or supporting data processing pipelines and ETL workflows in a financial services or enterprise context.
  • Familiarity with application security practices, including vulnerability assessment and structured debugging methodologies.
  • Prior experience acting as a subject matter resource for senior stakeholders or cross-functional technology teams.
