Team Overview
This role is for a Java Tech Lead responsible for leading the development to fulfill different Core Online Products such as Financial Services, Insurance, and Identity products. You will have both the accountability and freedom to build systems that are taking TransUnion to the next level. Success in this role requires a blend of skills in Java web services, core java, CI/CD, Agile methodology, and/or working in a large onshore/offshore model, strong ability to debug and use objected oriented design thinking. This role will also coach and mentor junior developers, review code designs, manage code packages and be a leader for the group.Justification
The team needs a strong technical leader in GCC who can effectively execute the implementation and delivery of business requirements and help achieve the time to market goals for the different Core Online products that are fulfilled through the Core Online applications. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.
Role Overview And Core Responsibilities
What You'll Bring- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven experience designing, building, and operating large-scale enterprise platforms and mission-critical applications.
- Strong software architecture and engineering expertise, including:
- Requirements analysis and solution design
- Domain-driven design and API-first architectures
- Distributed systems and event-driven architectures
- Cloud-native application development
- Technical leadership and mentoring
- CI/CD and DevSecOps practices
- Test automation and quality engineering
- Production support and operational excellence
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools and Generative AI technologies to improve engineering productivity, code quality, software delivery, and operational efficiency.
- Strong experience building high-volume, low-latency, highly available Java applications capable of meeting demanding SLA/SLO objectives.
- Experience designing and operating resilient, fault-tolerant microservices and distributed systems with a focus on reliability, observability, scalability, and recoverability.
- Deep understanding of software resiliency patterns including circuit breakers, retries, rate limiting, bulkheads, graceful degradation, high availability, disaster recovery, and multi-region deployments.
- Experience developing systems that achieve and sustain enterprise-grade availability standards, including architectures designed for 99.999% service availability.
- Strong understanding of application, infrastructure, and data security best practices including secure SDLC, threat modeling, vulnerability remediation, secrets management, and software supply chain security.
- Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root cause analysis skills across application, database, network, and cloud environments.
- Experience building and maintaining comprehensive observability solutions including metrics, logging, tracing, alerting, and operational dashboards.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with engineers, architects, product teams, operations teams, and senior leadership.
- Ownership mindset with a "You Build It, You Own It" philosophy, including participation in production support, incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement.
Qualifications and Skills
- 8+ years of hands-on experience developing enterprise applications using Java and modern software engineering practices.

- Extensive experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, event-driven services, and microservices-based architectures.
- Experience integrating AI services, LLM-based solutions, vector databases, RAG architectures, AI agents, or AI-powered automation capabilities into enterprise applications.
- Experience building and maintaining automated testing frameworks, including:
- Unit testing
- Integration testing
- Contract testing
- End-to-end testing
- Performance and load testing
- Security testing
- Demonstrated experience optimizing application performance, latency, scalability, and resource utilization for high-throughput systems.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred), including containerized and Kubernetes-based deployments.

- Experience handling highly sensitive regulated data, including PII, PCI, financial, consumer credit, or other regulated datasets.
- Experience processing and managing large-scale datasets containing hundreds of millions to billions of records.

- Monitoring and alerting
- Distributed tracing
- Incident response
- Root cause analysis
- Capacity planning
- Performance and reliability engineering
- Experience supporting production systems in a Level 3/Level 4/Level 5 support model and leading restoration efforts during critical incidents.
- Knowledge of SRE principles, SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, and operational readiness practices.
- Architecture, cloud, security, Kubernetes, or SRE certifications are preferred.
- Experience designing, operating, and optimizing globally distributed databases such as Google Cloud Spanner, including schema design, query optimization, indexing strategies, consistency models, and large-scale transactional workloads.
- Proven experience building cloud-native applications on multi-region and multi-cloud platforms, with a strong understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, data replication, workload portability, and cross-cloud networking patterns.
