In India, Barry-Wehmiller operates as a hub of innovation and collaboration, housing our Global Competency Center (GCC) and other strategic functions. The GCC, based in Chennai, is an Engineering Center of Excellence that supports all Barry-Wehmiller divisions globally. The center focuses on areas such as design and development in mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering, software development, and additive manufacturing.

 

Role Overview

The Learning and OD Leader will be responsible for designing, driving, and sustaining learning, organization development, and communication strategies for Barry-Wehmiller India. In addition to building technical and behavioural capabilities, this role will ensure that team members are consistently engaged with the organization through engaging communication. The leader will develop scalable systems for leadership development, career growth, and knowledge sharing, while also shaping our brand as a GCC that is a center of excellence in information technology, Finance, content management and customer support — both within BW and within the industry. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Learning and Development

  • Develop and implement a learning strategy that supports GCC growth and aligns with global talent priorities.

  • Assess capability gaps across teams and design targeted interventions.

  • Oversee technical, functional, and behavioral training programs.

  • Partner with global and platform leaders to localize global training and development initiatives.

Organization Development

  • Lead leadership development, team effectiveness, culture building, and change management initiatives.

  • Support recognition and culture building interventions.

Communication and Engagement

  • Design and execute a communication strategy that ensures all team members are engaged, connected, and regularly updated.

  • Build and manage communication platforms (SharePoint, newsletters, podcasts, knowledge articles) to strengthen visibility and connection across the GCC.

  • Create and institutionalize processes for knowledge-sharing, including regular podcasts and articles on engineering and organizational best practices.

  • Position the GCC as a brand of excellence for engineering — internally to BW divisions and externally to the wider professional and academic ecosystem.

  • Partner with leaders to craft messages that align with organizational priorities, strengthen trust, and build a unified “One BWI” culture.

Program Management & Delivery

  • Manage end-to-end execution of training and communication initiatives.

  • Build frameworks to measure impact of learning and communication programs.

  • Ensure smooth onboarding programs for new hires and leadership integration.

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Training Coordinator and Technical Training Specialist.

  • Build a high-performance, customer-centric mindset in the Learning, OD and Communication team.

  • Partner with India leaders, People Operations, and global BWU teams to deliver integrated solutions.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in HR, OD, Communication, Psychology, or related field.

  • 10–15 years of experience in Learning and Development, OD, and/or Internal Communication.

  • Proven track record in designing and implementing leadership development, capability-building, and communication initiatives.

  • Strong facilitation, consulting, and coaching skills.

  • Experience in GCC or MNC environments preferred.

  • Ability to work across time zones and cultures.
