Leads middleware strategy, architecture, and delivery for Accounts Payable and Tax finance systems. Manages a 15-member engineering team, supplier delivery, integration lifecycles, governance, API and event-driven architecture, SAP and cloud integrations, automation, reliability, and production support. Partners with business, architecture, engineering, and vendor teams to deliver secure, scalable enterprise integration programs.
As part of a major enterprise finance transformation initiative, this role will lead middleware strategy, architecture, and delivery for modernising finance systems across the Accounts Payable and Tax domains.
The successful candidate will establish and scale a Middleware Centre of Excellence responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and reliable integrations across legacy applications, SAP S/4HANA, SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), and cloud-native platforms including Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
This leader will partner closely with business stakeholders, architects, engineering teams, and external suppliers to drive integration excellence, operational efficiency, automation, and innovation through modern engineering practices.
- Define and execute the vision for the Accounts Payable and Tax Middleware Center of Excellence.
- Lead end-to-end delivery of middleware solutions across the Accounts Payable and Tax product lines.
- Manage a 15-member team responsible for middleware interface build, testing, launch coordination, and alignment with legacy and Accounts Payable,Tax functional teams.
- Oversee supplier delivery and ensure alignment with project milestones.
- Manage the integration lifecycle across different program releases and production support.
- Partner with business, engineering, and vendor teams to deliver enterprise programs.
- Drive automation initiatives to improve Accounts Payable and Tax business processes.
- Establish governance, standards, and best practices for integration architecture.
- Define integration patterns, API strategies, and event-driven architectures.
- Ensure system integrations are secure, scalable, and high performing.
- Provide technical leadership for design, data mapping, and connectivity.
- Monitor middleware performance and reliability.
- Drive automation, AI adoption, and operational efficiency.
- Implement proactive measures to reduce downtime.
- Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in middleware engineering, enterprise integration, or distributed systems.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering large-scale enterprise integration programmes.
- Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Hands-on experience with Docker and containerised application deployment.
- Strong experience building and supporting event-driven architectures using platforms such as Apache Kafka.
- Experience designing, developing, and managing APIs using platforms such as Apigee.
- Experience integrating enterprise applications with SAP S/4HANA and/or SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP).
- Experience implementing Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and build high-performing teams.
- Passion for learning emerging technologies, including SAP S/4HANA integration capabilities and e-invoicing solutions.
- Experience with API security and governance tools such as 42Crunch or FOSSA.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID and identity management platforms.
- Experience working with Open Data Protocol (OData) services.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL or other relational database technologies.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Experience using Jira or similar tools for delivery management and planning.
- Exposure to finance transformation programmes, Accounts Payable processes, or Tax systems.
