Translate business requirements into scalable data solutions, support regulatory reporting, ensure OLTP/OLAP optimization, enforce data governance, document lineage and business rules, and collaborate with data warehouse, ETL, BI, actuarial, and policy teams.
Key Responsibilities
Data Modeling & Design
- Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for insurance applications and systems (claims, policy, underwriting, billing, reinsurance, etc.).
- Build and maintain enterprise data models aligned with insurance industry standards (e.g., ACORD).
- Define data dictionaries, metadata, and relationships to support data governance and consistency.
- Ensure data models are optimized for both transactional (OLTP) and analytical (OLAP) systems.
Insurance Domain Expertise
- Translate business requirements from claims, policy administration, underwriting, actuarial, and finance teams into scalable data solutions.
- Support regulatory and compliance reporting requirements (e.g., IRDAI, IFRS, Solvency II).
- Ensure models capture core insurance processes such as claims intake, adjudication, settlement, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with business analysts, data architects, and developers to deliver insurance-specific data solutions.
- Work with data warehouse, ETL, and BI teams to ensure seamless integration of insurance data.
- Collaborate with actuaries, claims specialists, and policy teams to validate data definitions and usage.
Governance & Standards
- Enforce data governance and quality standards across insurance systems.
- Document business rules, lineage, and data definitions for core insurance entities.
- Conduct impact analysis for changes in insurance processes and data flows.
Qualifications
Experience
- 4+ years of experience as a Data Modeler or Data Architect, preferably in the insurance industry.
- Strong hands-on experience with Erwin Data Modeler (or equivalent data modeling tools).
- Proven expertise in modeling insurance data entities such as Policy, Customer, Premiums, Claims, Payments, Underwriting, Reinsurance, and Agents/Brokers.
- Experience working with data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Skills
- Strong knowledge of insurance domain data flows and regulatory needs.
- Expertise in conceptual, logical, and physical modeling.
- Proficiency in SQL for data analysis and validation.
- Familiarity with insurance standards (e.g., ACORD, ISO) is a plus.
- Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and lineage tracking.
Education
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field.
Preferred Certifications (not mandatory)
- Erwin Data Modeler Certification.
- Insurance certifications (e.g., AINS, CPCU) are highly desirable.
- Data management certifications (e.g., CDMP).
