What you’ll do

We have rapidly grown our footprint across our Asia Pacific region as our business and teams continue to grow. This People Operations and People Partnering role is a unique blend of managing our workplaces (including expansion) and building community within our Asia Pacific hubs.
Success in this role means we can plan ahead for headcount growth and geographic expansion, while also ensuring the space is well set up to support the team’s day-to-day needs and help foster a sense of community within the Bangalore office.

You will be the first point of contact for HR queries on processes and policies, partnering with your stakeholders in navigating complex employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with labour laws and regulations, be responsible for maintaining accurate local HR systems, as well as assisting in cultivating an inclusive workspace culture to ensure a positive employee experience. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the growth of the Airwallex team, including supporting our other workplace needs in other regions alongside local teams.

This role is based in Bangalore.

Responsibilities:

People Operations

  • Support the employee lifecycle: Manage the onboarding and offboarding processes seamlessly—prepare documents, issue and collect company assets, and ensure overall great employee experience.

  • Maintain accurate employee records in our HRIS and other People Systems, ensuring high attention to detail

  • Go-To People Ops Resource: Address general HR inquiries and escalate complex matters when needed

  • Support Employee Transitions: Prepare employment-related letters and handle work visa arrangements, partnering existing vendor

  • Local Expertise in Employment Regulations: Have strong knowledge and understanding of Indian employment laws and other related governing bodies. Capable of navigating local regulatory requirements to ensure full compliance.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects including recommending and implementing improvements to our current People administrative process

  • Managing Tax investment proof and receipt collection for calculating tax purpose, including collecting the PF Transfer Form

  • Makes modifications in HR system to update employees’ withholding information such as tax status, direct deposit enrolment, or changes

People Partnering

  • Act as a People Partner and trusted advisor to business leaders and line managers on workforce planning, performance management, organisational structuring and efficiency, etc

  • Develop organisational people and talent priorities, programs and solutions to support business strategies and the functional strategies of the People & Talent org.

  • Drive and own the execution of functional and departmental performance management, talent review, succession planning, leadership development and organisational development.

  • Conduct data analysis and prepare people's insights for management review. Facilitate talent discussion.

  • Roll out employee relationship programs and staff engagement activities in order to maintain morality, productivity and retention.

  • Manages and resolves complex people relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.

  • Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and programs to align with organisational goals and promote an inclusive work environment.

  • Prepare people metrics and reports, analysing data to identify trends and make recommendations for process improvements.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as payroll, benefits, and recruitment, to ensure smooth people operations.

  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with discretion and professionalism.

Who you are:

We're looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.

  • Bachelor Degree from a recognised university with at least 8 years of solid working experience in a people-focused role such as employee engagement, workplace experience, talent management, and HR business partnering — with proven success supporting fast-paced, high-growth teams through periods of change, scale, or transformation.

  • You’re passionate about people, culture, and continuous improvement and aim to create a great employee experience.

  • You have hands-on exposure to the full employee lifecycle: onboarding, engagement, performance management, and exit processes.

  • You have a low-ego attitude – ready and excited to conquer any task. You are smart, presentable, meticulous, well organised and an excellent team player;

  • You consistently “go the extra mile” in your work

  • You are execution oriented, with good instincts for anticipating needs and changes

  • You have strong attention to detail and organization; an expert manager of priorities

  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable communicating proactively and directly

  • You are reliable, understanding that your punctuality and presence supports a positive experience for the Airwallex team

  • You can maintain total discretion on all matters, confidential or otherwise, business or personal

  • You work collaboratively with people at all levels and across functions and cultures

  • You have good judgement and are able to meet challenges with a sense of calm and confidence

  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and handle both strategic and admin tasks.

What you will bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in a HR Operations and Business Partnering role

  • Strong knowledge of Indian employment and labor law

  • Ability to develop and successfully implement clear and fair company/local policies

  • Comfortable with all forms of start-up communication including Slack

  • Proficiency in Google Suite and HRIS required (BambooHR a plus)

  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality required

  • Experience in a fast-growing start-up environment is a plus

  • Bachelor’s in Human Resources Management or relevant field
