About our Client:
Our Client helps teams improve performance and wellbeing by turning survey and timesheet data into actionable insights using cutting-edge AI technology. They are building an intelligent engine that detects signals, recommends actions, and automates workflows across safety, engagement, and productivity. They’re at an exciting inflection point - transitioning from agency support to a fully internal engineering team while scaling revenue growth. They are investing heavily in AI-driven development workflows - specifically leveraging the BMAD Method (Breakthrough Method for Agile AI-Driven Development) and similar frameworks to optimize our development processes through specialized AI agents for planning, architecture, and implementation.
Role:
We're looking for a Lead/Principal Engineer who thrives in high-ownership environments and is passionate about AI-driven development workflows to drive the technical vision and build the future of workplace insights. Reporting directly to the CTO, you'll lead the integration of AI/LLM capabilities (Claude, Gemini) across our fullstack platform, architect scalable solutions, and guide the engineering team while working directly with our product and design teams to ship solutions that matter to our customers.
This isn't your typical fullstack role - you'll have the autonomy to define the technical strategy and architecture across our entire technology stack, from Ruby on Rails backend APIs to Next.js frontend experiences, while leading a team that leverages AI-driven development methodologies like the BMAD Method to build production AI systems that transform how organizations understand their teams.
Key Responsibilities:
● Pioneer AI-driven development: Lead the adoption and implementation of AI-assisted development workflows, including the BMAD Method, using specialized AI agents for planning, architecture, and development
● Build AI-powered features: Lead the integration of AI across the fullstack to transform employee engagement and productivity data into actionable insights for HR managers
● Architect end-to-end solutions: Design and implement features from Rails APIs through to Next.js frontend experiences, leveraging AI planning agents and context-engineered development processes
● Lead technical strategy: Drive architectural decisions across our Ruby on Rails backend, Next.js frontend, and PostgreSQL data layer hosted on AWS, while optimizing development workflows with AI assistance
● Champion AI-driven workflows: Mentor engineers on leveraging AI agents for PRD creation, architectural planning, and development story generation to maximize team productivity
● Shape your team's growth: Guide engineers in adopting growth mindsets and AI-assisted development practices while developing technical expertise across our technology stack
● Collaborate cross-functionally: Work directly with product and design to break down requirements and deliver customer-focused solutions across the entire user experience
● Foster innovation culture: Champion psychological safety, experimentation with AI tools, and continuous learning within the engineering team
● Drive platform decisions: Instrument features, monitor production health across frontend and backend systems, and lead architectural improvements using AI-assisted analysis
Requirements
- 5-7 years of professional software development with fullstack experience across Ruby on Rails and modern frontend frameworks (Next.js/React preferred)
- Strong AI-driven development experience: Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development workflows, frameworks like BMAD Method or similar, and leveraging AI agents for planning, architecture, and implementation
- Growth mindset and rapid learning ability: Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new technologies, embrace AI tools, and continuously optimize development processes
- Strong leadership mindset - comfortable leading technical decisions, mentoring engineers, and taking responsibility for platform reliability across frontend and backend systems
- Startup or small team experience where you've led technical initiatives, worn multiple hats, and thrived with high autonomy rather than rigid corporate structures
- Customer empathy and understanding of how technical decisions across the entire stack impact end users
- AI-first engineering approach: Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into production applications and optimizing development workflows with AI assistance
- Collaborative leadership approach to experimentation, learning, and knowledge sharing across the engineering team, especially around AI tools and methodologies
- Experience with PostgreSQL, cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), and modern deployment practices
Nice to have:
- BMAD Method or similar frameworks: Direct experience with AI-driven development methodologies, agentic planning, or context-engineered development approaches
- AI agent orchestration: Experience building or working with specialized AI agents for different development roles (planning, architecture, development, QA)
- Technical leadership experience in mentoring engineers and driving architectural decisions in AI-enhanced environments
- Cross-functional exposure to product, design, cloud infrastructure (AWS), or DevOps work with AI optimization
- Multi-tenant applications, background processing at scale, or event-driven architectures enhanced with AI capabilities
- Interest in employee wellbeing and workplace psychology, particularly how AI can enhance team productivity and satisfaction
- Experience with auth/SSO systems, performance optimization, or observability tools across AI-enhanced fullstack systems
