Title and Summary

Principal, Platform Engineer

Principal Cloud Platform Architect/Engineer responsible for the helping define, implement and maintain several Mastercard Cloud initiatives focusing on Merger & Acquisition activities. Initiatives include items such as helping define Strategy, Principles, Patterns, Standards, Designs, and Integration approaches which will aid in enabling current and future Entities join Mastercard.
Special Note: Travel to Mastercard Office and/or M&A Entity location is expected. This travel may be international as Mastercard is a Global company.
Responsibilities:
• Works across multi-organizations inside Mastercard and the M&A entity to influence complex decision and designs, driving outcome-based activities, advocating, and gaining trust through leadership and delivery
• Communicates organizational vision and infuses external industry standards and best practices into new and innovative strategic changes. Consult across teams/organizations to identify synergies, risks, dependencies, and re-use opportunities
• Designs architecture from proof of concept to an operationally functional application and collaborates with peers, engineers, application team(s) and user(s) to determine that all the high-level requirements have been met
• Formulates recommendations to optimize the existing cloud platform architecture including developing creative solutions to drive innovation and enhance customer experience
• Tracks and manages architecture issues and their corresponding exceptions or corrective action plans to ensure best practices are implemented and adhered to. Ensures exceptions are properly recorded and mitigated, explaining trade-offs when required
• Supports process improvement efforts to identify and test opportunities for automation and/or reduction in time to deployment
• Provides consultative advice and remediation to architectural and operational problems impacting cloud infrastructure, services & product availability and performance globally, and evaluates new technology for possible deployment in Mastercard’s overall infrastructure.
• Contributes to technology guild initiatives by engaging and mentoring all levels to improve craftsmanship and conducting architect training. Actively participate and contribute to the Mastercard Guild community and Review Boards
• Creates and contributes to approved and reusable Cloud-based Patterns and Standards
• Mentors and coaches team members by providing training to develop technical skills and capabilities across the organization
Experiences:
• AWS experience is a must, GCP/Azure experience a plus.
• Extensive experience leading domestic and/or global teams across technology domains as a technical expert, selecting, implementing and evaluating new technology to drive architectural solutions
• Extensive Experience ensuring security and service standards are implemented to drive technology performance and experience
• Extensive experience leading large cross-functional technology initiatives, demonstrating a strong ability to anticipate and resolve design architectural challenges
• Collaborating with leaders in the technical community to evaluate new solutions and recommend future technology requirements
• Acting as a global thought leader and active participant in global technical communities of practice (e.g., Tech Leadership Network, Architect Guild, Cloud), including driving efforts to develop new innovative designs and/or processes to be applied to project work and initiatives
• Possessing skills to evaluate existing practices, metrics, and roles to continually optimize SDLC methodologies and automate processes to improve lead time
• Possessing skills to perform architecture, costs and technology risk analysis for internal, hybrid, and public cloud solutions
• Driving trade-off discussions to set right development capacity based on various value drivers (e.g. regulatory, security, new business, market parity, technical debt)
