Manage and support PostgreSQL and Progress 4GL databases across different environments, ensure data integrity, optimize performance, and assist in release management.
Job Description:
Responsibilities:Database Administration:
- Manage and support Production, QA, and Development environments for PostgreSQL and Progress 4GL databases.
- Monitor and manage database backups and ensure proper data growth management.
- Refresh Dev, Test, and Preprod environments by syncing them with the Live environment.
- Tune database performance by analyzing and optimizing query execution, index usage, and general database configurations.
- Perform Database Dump and Load operations, including experience with Progress database management.
- Ensure data integrity and consistency across different environments (Dev, Test, Preprod, and Production).
- Troubleshoot database-related issues, especially around code deployments, compilation, and their interaction with the database.
- Collaborate closely with the Development Team, providing support for database-related queries, optimizations, and issues.
- Use PROMON and other tools to regularly perform database health checks.
- Proactively monitor database performance and make adjustments to ensure optimum functionality.
- Experience in tuning performance issues and implementing changes when necessary.
- Knowledge of Appserver and Webspeed to optimize the performance of Progress-based applications.
- Manage SQL Server instances using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Perform regular backup and restore operations for SQL Server databases.
- Prepare runbooks for production releases, outlining all steps and procedures for application deployment and database changes.
- Assist in Release Management by coordinating deployment schedules and ensuring that deployment goes smoothly.
- Handle deployment issues, ensuring the release process is seamless across all environments.
- Experience managing both PostgreSQL and Progress 4GL databases.
- Expertise in database backups, restores, and data refreshes across environments.
- In-depth experience with database performance tuning (e.g., query optimization, indexing).
- Familiarity with Progress 4GL queries, Appserver, and Webspeed.
- SQL Server management skills (backup, restore, etc.) are a plus.
- Experience with release management and writing/maintaining runbooks.
