Project Manager – (Battery)Location: Sydney, Newcastle, Greater Hunter Region, or Melbourne | Hybrid Work Options Available | Frequent Travel to Construction Sites Required

AGL is leading Australia’s clean energy transition, and we’re looking for an experienced Project Manager – Construction to oversee the delivery of our Battery Project. This is a client-side project management role, responsible for ensuring safety, quality, budget, and schedule adherence while leading a high-performing team to deliver critical energy infrastructure.

About the role:

As a Project Manager – Battery, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of AGL’s Battery Projects. You will lead safety performance, ensuring best-in-class standards across all construction activities. Your expertise in project execution will drive seamless contract management, construction progress, and risk mitigation. You will actively engage with stakeholders, including contractors, regulators, AEMO, TNSP, and local communities, to align project goals and maintain a social license to operate. Overseeing financial performance, you will manage CAPEX budgets, identify cost-saving opportunities, and uphold financial discipline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • HSE Leadership – Own all aspects of safety and environmental management, ensuring contractor performance meets AGL’s high standards while driving best-practice safety initiatives.

  • Project Execution & Delivery – Lead an integrated project team, manage construction and commissioning activities, and ensure seamless collaboration between AGL, contractors, regulators, and engineering teams.

  • Financial & Commercial Management – Oversee project budgets, drive cost efficiencies, manage contracts and negotiations, and ensure robust financial and contractual controls.

  • Stakeholder & Community Engagement – Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, regulators, and local communities to uphold AGL’s social license to operate.

  • Risk & Governance – Identify and mitigate project risks, maintain a live risk register, and ensure full compliance with regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Extensive experience in Project Management with a strong track record of delivering construction projects >$100M.

  • Power industry experience, with an understanding of renewable energy projects (preferably).

  • Proven leadership in HSE, ensuring outstanding safety performance.

  • Expertise in stakeholder management, including regulators and government agencies.

  • Commercial acumen – contract negotiation, budgeting, risk management.

  • Experience managing EPC contractors, ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery.

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering (or related field); project management qualifications highly regarded.
