Environmental Resources Management (ERM) – a leading global provider of sustainability, environmental, health, safety and risk consulting services seek an experienced legal counsel to join our Asia Pacific (APAC) legal team. 

The ERM Legal Group is a global team supporting ERM and its worldwide operations. This role is based in Asia and reports to the APAC Regional Managing Counsel in Perth, Australia.

The role’s primary focus is to:

  • provide legal support to the ERM APAC business

  • assist the Legal Team in contributing to the reduction of ERM’s risk profile, supporting sound decision‑making and strengthening client relationships

  • review and draft a broad range of contract documents including professional service contracts, framework agreements, subcontracts, secondment agreements, confidentiality agreements and reliance agreements

  • advise ERM personnel and management on corporate governance and related compliance matters

  • provide legal risk management support to the business

  • assist with managing external counsel in various APAC jurisdictions

  • provide input on business and operational transformation initiatives

  • support other business enablement teams

  • support integration of newly acquired businesses into the APAC region

  • act as a trusted adviser, balancing legal and commercial risk to deliver optimal outcomes

This role includes a significant component of contract reviews, drafting and advice.  It would be ideal for a senior commercial contracts lawyer looking to join a multi-national commercial in-house team in a business-facing role, providing end-to-end service with a wide variety of work and responsibilities.

About You

The ideal person for this position will:

  • hold a current legal practice certificate, with at least 5+ years post qualification legal experience

  • have gained legal experience in an international or top tier law firm, and worked for at least 3 years as part of an in-house legal team, ideally for an international professional services company

  • possess a well-developed understanding of commercial, contract and risk management issues (including a good understanding of compliance issues) facing a global business

  • have demonstrable experience delivering legal support to a wide variety of technical staff

  • be approachable, proactive and pragmatic

  • possess clear, plain language drafting skills

  • be able to work as part of a team, whilst also able to work independently and with initiative

  • prioritise good client relations and be sensitive to cultural differences presented by ERM’s operations

  • be professional, calm under pressure, well-organized, tolerant, able to grasp concepts quickly and able to meet challenging deadlines

  • possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • be fluent in spoken and written English (fluency in another language relevant to the region would be viewed favourably)
