Senior QA Test Engineer – Shop & Scan (Automation & AI-Enabled)

Overview

Role Purpose
Ensure high-quality delivery of the Shop & Scan platform by designing, automating, and executing robust test
scenarios across the full product lifecycle. This role combines functional validation, automation engineering,
and AI-assisted testing practices to maximise regression coverage, accelerate feedback cycles, and improve
release confidence.

Project Context

Shop & Scan is a consumer research platform where household members scan purchases through a mobile
application, generating valuable behavioural insights. The QA role is critical to ensuring seamless end-to-end
user journeys, accurate reward processing, and secure, reliable platform behaviour.

Role Scope

This role acts as the primary QA owner for Shop & Scan, defining and driving the quality approach across
functional, automated, and AI-assisted testing practices. The scope extends beyond execution to include test
strategy, automation framework maturity, regression optimisation, defect prevention, release readiness, and
continuous improvement. In a lean Agile environment, the role requires strong autonomy, sound judgement,
and close collaboration with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure quality is embedded
early in the delivery lifecycle.

Testing Process

• Quality Planning & Test Design

The role analyses User Stories and technical requirements, challenges ambiguity early, and ensures clear,
testable acceptance criteria are in place for each delivery item.
Comprehensive test scenarios are designed across functional, negative, and edge-case coverage, with
appropriate preconditions, test data, and reusable test assets to support efficient execution.
The role maintains and evolves the regression test suite in line with product priorities, ensuring traceability
between requirements, coverage, defects, and release outcomes.

• Automation Strategy & Framework Ownership

The role is responsible for developing and maintaining automated test coverage for regression testing, critical
business flows, and API validations. Automation must remain maintainable, scalable, and aligned with sprint
delivery, with a continuous focus on improving coverage, execution efficiency, and release of confidence.

• Test Execution, Defect Management & Release Support

The role oversees execution of planned testing across automated, manual, exploratory, sanity, and release
validation activities, ensuring risks, blockers, and quality concerns are surfaced promptly and managed
proactively. Defects are logged with clear and structured evidence, including reproducibility detail, expected versus actual
behaviour, business impact, and severity assessment to support efficient triage and resolution.

• Clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence

• Actual versus expected results and impact on users or business flows

The role works closely with developers and stakeholders through defect triage, prioritisation, retesting, and
release readiness assessments to support informed go/no-go decisions.

• AI-Enabled Testing Practices

The role leverages AI tools to support test case generation from requirements, optimise regression test
selection, identify coverage gaps, and improve exploratory testing efficiency. It also contributes to the
adoption of practical AI-driven QA approaches across the team where they add measurable value.

• Validation, Quality Sign-off & Continuous Improvement

Following defect resolution or delivery completion, the role validates outcomes across impacted areas and
ensures fixes meet the agreed quality standard before closure.
The role also identifies process, tooling, and coverage improvements to strengthen QA maturity over time
and improve overall delivery quality.

QA Responsibilities:

• Own the end-to-end QA approach for Shop & Scan, ensuring test coverage is aligned to business
priorities, delivery risks, and release objectives.
• Drive automation adoption and framework improvement to increase regression efficiency,
repeatability, and release confidence.
• Collaborate with product owners, developers, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements,
shape quality standards, and embed QA early in the delivery lifecycle.
• Provide quality visibility through clear reporting on risks, defects, test progress, and release
readiness.
• Champion best practice in test design, defect management, AI-enabled testing, and continuous
improvement to support a high-quality, scalable product.

        Required Qualifications:

  • Typically 4+ years of experience in software QA across functional testing, regression testing, and release validation activities.

  • Hands-on experience with test automation using at least one modern framework such as
    Playwright, Selenium, or Cypress.

  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams and collaborating effectively with developers, product owners, business analysts, and business stakeholders.

  • Strong defect management, analytical, communication, and prioritisation skills.
Good understanding of API testing, web and mobile application testing, and quality assurance best practices.

    Candidate Profile:

  • The successful candidate will bring a blend of strong QA fundamentals, automation capability, and modern testing awareness, with the confidence to operate independently and influence quality outcomes across the product lifecycle.

  • Core QA Skills: Strong experience in functional testing and regression testing, test design, defect management, and working within Agile or Scrum delivery environments.

  • Automation Skills (Mandatory): Hands-on experience with at least one modern automation
framework such as Playwright, Selenium, or Cypress, with the ability to design, maintain, and evolve automated test suites for critical business journeys.

  • API & Technical Testing: Experience with API validation tools such as Postman or Newman, plus working knowledge of SQL for data validation and debugging tools or logs for issue investigation.

  • AI & Modern Testing (Preferred): Awareness of AI-assisted QA tooling and a practical interest in using AI for test generation, coverage optimisation, and smarter exploratory testing practices.

  • Tools & Delivery: Practical experience with Azure DevOps or Jira, and familiarity with integrating test automation into CI/CD-oriented delivery processes.

  • Product & Domain Understanding: Good understanding of web and mobile application testing fundamentals, ideally within consumer-facing applications or data-driven platforms.

  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, ownership mindset, and clear
communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Additional Advantage: Exposure to performance testing concepts, experience with consumer-facing or data-led platforms, and familiarity with distributed delivery teams across Europe and India.

  • This profile is suited to a hands-on QA professional who can balance day-to-day delivery support with continuous improvement, automation advancement, and strong stakeholder engagement.
