About this role
The Senior BI Engineer, Business Analytics hire will play a key role in supporting strategy for Udemy’s content and instructor teams as well as support a broader set of reporting needs. This role, which is part of Udemy’s Strategic Business Analytics organization, will partner closely with our instructor partner and content curation teams to ensure Udemy’s content remains fresh and relevant to individuals’ and organizations’ needs. The role will also partner with a wider range of stakeholders, from Growth, Finance, and Marketing teams, as needed to generate ongoing insights into the broader Consumer and Enterprise businesses.
You’ll blend business reporting and data science with strong communication skills to proactively identify trending content, build a better understanding of user engagement with that content, and diagnose broader drivers of business performance – all in service of informing strategic decision making. This is a highly visible role that sits at the intersection of analytics, strategy, content, and growth.
What you'll be doing
Data-Driven Content Strategy:
- Partner with Udemy’s instructor strategy, curation, and broader supply teams to deliver compelling, data-informed insights that inform our tactics/strategies to maintain instructor satisfaction and accelerate content acquisition and learner engagement with our offerings
- Design and implement proactive alerting tools (e.g., using Tableau) to surface leading indicators of demand, content relevance, and content freshness to inform curation decision-making
- Build executive-level data visualizations to track performance across a wide-range of domains (e.g., course consumption and performance, learner behavior and adoption of individual product features, etc.)
Proactive Insights & Performance Diagnostics:
- Analyze revenue growth drivers by content type, geographic market, product solution, and customer segment to identify opportunities for optimization
- Leverage user behavioral data to identify patterns and trends that inform instructor outreach, marketing tactics, consumer lifecycle planning, and external communications
- Partner with Finance to help maintain forecasting models for key business metrics (e.g., sales, revenue share, churn) that are used in planning and investment decisions
Analytics Innovation:
- Develop new methods for measuring content value and learning impact, grounded in data science best practices
- Build high-quality data sets and make use of automation and AI where appropriate to speed up time to insight and improve general tooling for stakeholders’ decision making
Collaboration & Scale:
- Translate open-ended business questions into structured analyses and actionable recommendations
- Support a wide range of self-directed projects and stakeholder requests while identifying repeatable processes that can be operationalized or scaled through automation and/or expanded reporting
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Content, Growth, Marketing, Finance, other Data Science Teams, and Analytics Engineering, to improve data pipelines and accessibility
What you’ll have
- 3–5 years of experience in a data science or analytics role, ideally with experience in content and user engagement insights
- Expert-level SQL skills; experience with Databricks or similar cloud data warehouses, comfort combining data from various sources into cohesive models
- Proficiency in data visualization tools, ideally Tableau, with a strong eye for visual storytelling and usability
- A proactive mindset, strong ownership, and a collaborative approach to working across teams
- Experience utilizing Python or other scripting languages
- An ability and experience applying various analytical approaches and technical solutions to support business decision-making: understanding stakeholder needs and devising the right approach for the right problem will be key
- Strong communication skills; capable of presenting insights clearly and building confidence with business partners that the right questions are being asked and answered
- Comfort balancing competing priorities and working in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in data visualization tools, ideally Tableau, with a strong eye for visual storytelling and usability.
- A proactive mindset, strong ownership, and a collaborative approach to working across teams.
