Senior Cloud Reliability Engineer

Role Profile 

In this role, you'll be joining Reliability Engineering & Enablement (REE), within Corporate Engineering (CE) as a Cloud Reliability Engineer

REE do this by: 

  • Ensuring all central requirements and changes are supported via aligned REE squads. Using our REE squads, the team will either directly implement the technical change required or lead CE coordinated efforts where there are multiple capability dependencies. 

  • Ensuring correct tooling standards are being followed as well as automation of operational tasks. 

  • Supporting CE Compliance, Security Controls and Risk Management. 

  • Ensuring an acceptable level of IT operations performance and error risk in line with service level agreements (SLAs) 

  • Continuously review operating metrics and data to find opportunities to improve. 

Job Description Summary 

Coordinates activities within the team and applies knowledge of the technology domain to support with the development of technology products. 

 Role Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities: 

  • Implements, tunes, and conducts ongoing administration of application, data and infrastructures layers including proposing application systems changes, better uses and improvements. 

  • Improves the whole lifecycle of services from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement. 

  • Provides support services before they launch through activities such as system design consulting, capacity planning, and launch reviews. 

  • Leads availability, performance monitoring, and capacity planning of critical services, on building automation to prevent problem recurrence, and on building automated responses for non-exceptional service conditions. 

  • Maintains services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health. 

  • Handles sustainable incident response. 

  • Scales systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, evolving evolve systems by advocating for changes that improve reliability and velocity. 

  • Proactively continues to build and apply relevant domain knowledge that may relate to workflows, data pipelines, business policies, configurations and constraints 

  • Supports essential processes while ensuring high quality standards are met 
     

Tech Profile/Essential Skills 

  • Hands on AWS and Azure Platforms

  • Knowledge in scripting language Python (preferable) 

  • Knowledge about REST API is desirable. 

  • System Engineer – Red hat/Windows 

  • Working knowledge on DevSecOps and SRE practices

  • Working knowledge of CI/CD Pipeline 

Preferred Skills and Experience 

  • Hands-On experience of working 7+ Years on Windows/ Linux Servers. Cloud services (AWS). 

  • 4 Years of experience on supporting Applications hosted on Cloud Platforms. 

  • Handling incidents, change requests, service requests and driving TRC (Technical Recovery Call). 

  • Strong problem-solving skills on these platforms 

  • Minimum knowledge and understanding of financial markets are desirable. 

  • Able to work autonomously and in a team. 

  • Effective communication in English with all levels of staff, both orally and written. 

  • Able to handle own work and multitask to meet targets without losing sight of priorities under minimum supervision. 

  • Highly motivated, self-directed individual with a positive & pro-active demeanour to work. 

  • Customer and service focused, with determination to meet their needs and expectations. 

  • Be driven and committed to the goals and objectives of the team and organization. 

  • Ability to provide Production support 24/7 with rotational shifts pattern. 

  • Point of escalation in event of a major incident 

  • ITIL Process Knowledge. 

Education and Professional Skills 

  • Professional qualification or equivalent. 

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or STEM degree (Desirable)  

  • Solid English reading/writing capability required. 

  • Strong communication & articulation skills. 

  • Curious about new technologies and tools, creative thinking and initiative taking. 

  • Deep technical understanding of development and systems / platform engineering. 

  • Strategic ability to define technical direction in the portfolio of products including technical strategies and plans and execution plans. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills 

Detailed Responsibilities 

  • Work closely with senior and junior engineers in REE Team and coordinate the efforts with lead and manager of the team. 

  • Must interact with global teams in time zones spanning UK, US, APAC areas. 

  • Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, through to deployment, operation, and refinement. 

  • Support services before they launch through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity management and launch reviews. 

  • Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health. 

  • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity. 

  • Collaborate with Security and Infrastructure teams to ensure the patching are up to date.   

  • Co-ordinate and work with DevOps / SRE Capability team to perform the Disaster recovery for the applications.   

  • Participate in Project related activities to meet operational needs. 

  • To ensure knowledge Articles of all supported systems are created and continually updated. 

  • To provide a high level of customer service, whilst working under pressure. 

  • To follow and adhere to established standard ITSM processes.
