Senior Director - Global Catalog Platform

Global Catalog sits at the heart of Walmart's commerce ecosystem, powering product experiences across online and in-store journeys for millions of customers worldwide. It enables suppliers and sellers to efficiently create and manage product experiences while helping customers discover, evaluate, and purchase products with confidence. By powering high-quality product information, rich content, and intelligent commerce experiences, Catalog plays a critical role in connecting customers, suppliers, and sellers across one of the world's largest retail platforms. As Walmart continues to transform retail through people, technology, and AI, Global Catalog is helping shape the future of commerce through innovative capabilities that serve customers, suppliers, sellers, and associates around the world.

The Senior Director of Engineering will be based in the Bengaluru office and will lead a core area within Global Catalog. Working with peer engineering leaders and partners across Product, Business, and Data Science, this leader will be responsible for modernizing product content processing and advancing scalable catalog capabilities that support Walmart's global commerce experiences.


What You'll Do

  • Own the engineering strategy and execution for core product content processing systems, which serve as a source of truth for product content used across Walmart's digital product experiences, including product detail pages.
  • Lead the evolution of scalable pipelines that process product content from suppliers, sellers, and external brand sources, including images and videos, within defined service-level expectations, while advancing reusable capabilities for matching, ranking, merging, variants, and relationship processing to improve the accuracy, consistency, and quality of product content at scale.
  • Guide the architecture for emerging agentic interactions where they intersect with Catalog, partnering with enterprise teams to align on reusable patterns and platform capabilities. 
  • Define and execute the technology roadmap for this portfolio, balancing foundational platform investments with near-term business priorities and customer outcomes. 
  • Partner with Product, Business, Data Science, and Operations leaders to clarify priorities, make informed trade-offs, and deliver measurable outcomes for customers, sellers, suppliers, merchants, and associates. 
  • Lead the design and operation of scalable, reliable, secure, and resilient distributed systems across the assigned Global Catalog portfolio. 
  • Develop engineering leaders and senior technical talent, fostering clear ownership, sound engineering practices, operational discipline, and continuous improvement. 
  • Improve platform effectiveness, catalog quality, engineering productivity, and cost efficiency through data, automation, and appropriate use of AI. 

What You'll Bring 

  • 18+ years of technology and engineering leadership experience, leading engineering managers, senior engineers, and architects. Strong experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems, with a focus on reliability, availability, performance, security, and operational excellence. 
  • Experience leading platform, commerce, marketplace, or enterprise product engineering teams and delivering meaningful business and customer outcomes at scale. 
  • Provides architectural guidance and solution review across multiple backend (for example, Java, Python, Go, Rust), technologies. 
  • Drive standardization and reuse of architectural patterns, frameworks, and AI tooling across domains to accelerate time-to-market, reduce technical debt, and ensure architectural integrity. 
  • Strong technical and architectural judgment across modern software platforms, cloud technologies, data-intensive systems, AI/ML-enabled capabilities, and platform engineering practices. 
  • Ability to define and execute multi-year technology roadmaps while balancing foundational investments, operational priorities, and near-term delivery commitments. 
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience building alignment across Engineering, Product, Business, Data Science, and Operations through collaboration and influence. 
  • Proven ability to build and develop high-performing engineering teams, strengthen leadership capability, and foster a culture of accountability and engineering excellence. 
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field, with experience in eCommerce, marketplace, commerce platforms, or large-scale product organisations preferred.
