What you need to know about the role
As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and enhancing backend web applications and services. You will leverage your expertise in Java technologies to build robust solutions that enable our customers to seamlessly access and manage our various offerings.
We are looking for a 8 + years experienced backend developer with hands-on proficiency in Java, Spring who will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful results within an established software development lifecycle framework.

Design elegant, scalable solutions and maintain documentation.

Deploy and maintain code using PayPal’s Dev-ops pipeline

What do you need to bring

8+ years hands-on experience

Excellent problem-solving abilities

Java, OO-based design and development.

Design and implementation of micro-services

Proven track record working with real-world projects, solid understanding of software development/delivery lifecycle

Development experience with high-traffic backend services

Direct experience with concepts such as SOA, REST APIs, message-based communication.

Understand concepts around concurrency and transactions

Understand distributed systems concepts like SLAs, consistency, data durability, message persistence and idempotency.

Architecture principles for SOA, Event Driven and Large-Scale Systems

Strong skills in Server-Side Java, Spring, Spring Batch, Hibernate, REST, Maven and other open-source Java Libraries.

Experience with Kafka/RabbitMQ (or any message broker) as well hands-on with containerisation (Docker) is a plus

Good grasp of Data structures & Algorithm concepts.

Database design, programming, tuning and query optimisation.

Test methodologies and testing tools, e.g., TestNG, JUnit.

Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.

Experience in software configuration management and streaming strategies for large parallel development teams.

Ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams across time zones is essential.

Strong verbal and writing skills; ability to thoroughly understand product specifications, and ability to produce clear, concise documentation.

Understanding of processes and standards from compliance standpoint.

Project planning ability, experience in managing small development teams.

Experience with GitHub, Jira
