Role & responsibilities
1. Lab Operations Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the metallurgical lab, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to quality standards.
- Plan and prioritize lab activities to support production schedules and customer requirements.

2. Testing and Analysis
- Conduct and supervise metallurgical testing, including:
- Microstructure Analysis: Perform metallographic examinations to evaluate the depth and uniformity of case hardening parts and castings (Grey , Nodular and Vermicular cast iron).
- Hardness Testing: Carry out surface and core hardness tests (Rockwell, Vickers, Brinell, etc.).
- Case Depth Measurement: Verify case depth using appropriate techniques such as micro-hardness profiling.

3. Process Monitoring and Validation
- Validate and optimize direct hardening and carbonitriding cycles to meet specified mechanical properties and case depths.
- Ensure compliance with heat treatment standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO) and customer specifications.
- Monitor furnace atmospheres, carbon potential, and nitriding potential to maintain process consistency.

4. Quality Assurance
- Ensure all heat-treated components meet quality standards and customer requirements.
- Conduct failure analysis on rejected components and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed reports and documentation for all tests performed.
- Perform the CQI -9 and CQI-15 audit and ensure the requirements are in place and adhered.

5. Equipment Maintenance and Calibration
- Ensure proper functioning and regular calibration of laboratory equipment, including:
- Optical microscopes
- Hardness testers
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and liaise with service providers for repairs and calibration.

6. Data Management and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of test results, analyses, and observations as per the IATF 16949 and customer requirements.

7. Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to and enforce safety standards in the lab.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and occupational health regulations related to heat treatment processes and lab operations.

8. Process Improvement
- Collaborate with the production team to refine heat treatment cycles for improved efficiency and product quality.
- Stay updated on advancements in metallurgy and heat treatment technologies to implement best practices.

9. Team Management and Training
- Supervise lab technicians and provide technical guidance.
- Train lab staff in testing procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
- Conduct performance reviews and encourage skill development.
- 10. Customer and Supplier Interaction
- Collaborate with customers to understand their metallurgical requirements and specifications.

Liaise with material and equipment suppliers to source lab materials and services as needed
Qualifications and Skills.
Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Diploma in Metallurgy.
4 to 6 years of experience in heat treatment engineering.
Strong knowledge of heat treatment principles and processes.
Experience in heat treatment of metals and alloys.
Familiarity with foundry and casting processes.
Ability to design heat treatment processes to achieve desired material properties.
Understanding of materials specifications and requirements.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Strong attention to detail and quality orientation.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills. - Prepare detailed reports for internal use and customer documentation.
- Provide feedback to the production team based on lab findings to enhance process efficiency.
