Gather AI is a supply chain robotics company founded by the PhDs from Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute who created the world’s first provably-safe autonomous helicopter. We have developed an Inventory as a Service platform where fully autonomous drones collect warehouse inventory data at a press of a button.
This is an essential problem to solve as the warehouses we serve have typically misplaced over 10% of their inventory worth $10+ million dollars (seriously!). Their current manual techniques for taking inventory are falling down due the e-commerce boom brought on by COVID, and made worse due to the labor shortage and 70% annual staff turnover. Our drones take inventory 15x faster than humans with over 95% accuracy. We deliver this data through our web dashboard, which acts as a DVR for their warehouse where they run their inventory operation. We are the leader in this new market with proven technology. Our drones are live in a dozen warehouses and have scanned over 150k pallet locations.
We are a pure-software robotics company and our key innovation is the world’s only autonomy and machine learning engine that can solve this problem with commodity hardware in GPS-denied environments. That means we avoid all of the hardware development pitfalls of traditional robotics companies and we can scale 10x faster. The robotics industry is starting to enter its “Google era,” and we are leading the charge.
About You
We’re looking for a Lead Full Stack Engineer, where your expertise in full stack application development takes flight in the exciting challenge of empowering flying robots (drones) to perform real, impactful work. You’ll contribute to the heartbeat of our AI-focused company by crafting and maintaining web and backend applications that enable customers to seamlessly process visually gathered information, transforming it into actionable tasks and breathing life into our cutting-edge ML and autonomy technology. You’ll also dive into the core interfaces utilized by both customers and internal teams to review and refine data collected by our drones, synthesizing it into actionable insights while constructing tools that assess product performance and measure its value for customers, seizing opportunities for growth and learning. Revel in the opportunity to flex your CS fundamentals, seamlessly blending front-end expertise with occasional forays into back-end or full-stack tasks to bring your visionary ideas to life. Join us at Gather and be part of the revolution shaping the future of AI-driven solutions!
What You’ll Do
- Develop and evolve our automated inventory monitoring and data gathering solutions.
- Code and test complex system modules; develop and leverage frameworks to be effective and efficient. This includes interfaces that map warehouse physical environments, build flight schedules, control flight progress, and help our customers view immediate data insights and trends based on flight results.
- Translate functional and non-functional requirements into detailed architecture documentation, design, and extensible code.
- Continuously improve our web applications' performance, robustness, and scalability as we grow, and the footprint and generality of our product as it expands.
- Lead architecture design, and code reviews to maintain high development standards.
- Own system architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Collaborate with a team of world-class autonomy, machine learning, and full-stack experts on new feature development.
- Own and eliminate the technical debt that comes with startup growth and learning.
- Build and maintain build scripts, tooling, and unit testing fundamental to building a mature, easy-to-evolve, and release CI/CD application platform.
- Technically Lead a team of engineers on complex projects.
- Mentor other engineers, aligning with our core values and helping to build a fast-growing team.
- Advocate industry best practices to produce reliable, fault-torrent, and dependable code. Act as a trusted advisor and mentor to other team members (we are growing!)
What You’ll Need
- 5+ years full stack development experience at a product based company.
- 2+ years of design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
- BS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
- Extensive experience defining data models and APIs that can support scalable, flexible frontend applications, and data pipelines.
- Deep knowledge of the frontend and backend ecosystem including React.js, Node.js / Python, Postgres, and MongoDB, as well as common design patterns.
- Knowledge of and comfort with multithreading, security, and unit testing best practices.
- Experience Identifying the functional and non-functional requirements for new and existing features.
- Strong commitment to our OKR process, with the ability to document, track, and fulfill objectives and key results.
- Experience with at least one cloud provider (AWS, AZURE, GCP.)
- Interest in designing before developing interfaces using Miro/Figma to seek team alignment.
- Experience working with CI/CD testing tools and releasing production software through the cloud ecosystems.
- Good writing skills and a design-for-test ethos.
- Customer obsession! We are a customer-obsessed company. If you are not already customer-obsessed, expect to become so!
Nice to Have
- Experience in data warehouse technologies, data such as Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, and Apache Hive;understanding of ETL processes, data modeling, and performance optimization for large-scale data analysis.
- Some prior startup growth experience. We are a small but fast-growing company, and we are looking for candidates who are ready to grow their skills with us.
- Interest and proficiency in developing rich, possibly event-driven APIs involving multiple concurrent users (and drones!)
- Able to compare different tools, technologies, frameworks with applicability to different use cases.
