Within Pfizer Digital, the Commercial Creation Center is a thought partner to the commercial arms of the business (e.g., Pfizer's salesforce or marketers) and builds solutions for external customers throughout the product lifecycle. We support stakeholders with services that engage external customers through digital solutions, whether that is patients, healthcare professionals, payers, pharmacists, or clinical sites.
Within the Commercial Creation Centre, this role is focused on leading teams and delivering services in the Electron Group. This includes delivering capabilities around data, serverless and developer experience which other teams or services rely in order to become more productive when delivering value. The group is composed of multiple self-directed and diverse teams which are distributed around the world.
Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineering Manager who will be responsible for successful delivery and operation of services around data, automation and serverless capabilities.
In this role you will lead a team of around 12 contracted technical resources. You will manage an allocated budget and take decision on how your engineering team best delivers a service against a service contract.
You will also manage demand, roadmap, a lean backlog, and manage flow of work to deliver against well-defined user needs.
Frequently, you will also publish measurements of your service's health and team delivery performance to ensure high service quality. These measurements might include key flow metrics, lead time, scatter plot charts, cumulative flow diagrams or similar techniques.
Often, you will also be leading and advising stakeholders through complex domains and technical strategy decisions.
The position requires a balance of technical expertise and leadership skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading one or more services, develop strategies and roadmaps to deliver on user needs.
  • Leading a team of contracted technical resources, and manage flow of work from the backlog
  • Using data to measure how effective customer needs are met.
  • Leading and advising the organization on the identification of future trends and innovations.
  • Responsibility for budget and resource allocation and for monitoring service delivery arrangements.
  • Engagement with key stakeholders representing customer needs, architecture, data operations, technical leadership.
  • Ensuring that appropriate tools and methods are available, understood and employed in development.
  • Applying appropriate continual improvement methods to enhance productivity and quality of services at all times.
  • Ensuring that relevant technical strategies, policies, security, standards and practices are applied correctly.
  • Actively participates in Commercial's Engineering Community, to continually improve best practices and standards.
  • Participating in reviews of own work and leading reviews of colleagues' work.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with customers to find potential areas of mutual interest for future development.
  • Building long-term, strategic relationships with senior stakeholders.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 9 years' experience with increasing responsibility in delivering digital solutions, products, and services.
  • Extensive experience in a general-purpose programming language e.g., Java, Go, PHP or Python.
  • Extensive experience with Lean delivery processes and Kanban. Alternatively, experience with Agile and Scrum.
  • Extensive experience in software engineering and architecture, with a focus on leading global and complex projects.
  • Experience in leading diverse engineering teamswith the ability to mentor, motivateand inspire team members towards achieving common goals.
  • Experience operating in a DevOps environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicateeffectively with geographicallydistributed teams and establish strong partnerships withsenior stakeholders.
  • Talent to explaincomplex topics in a simple manner.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Kanban from a reputable institution e.g., ProKanban.org or Scrum.org.
  • Certification of cloud practices e.g., AWS Cloud Practitioner.
  • Certification in a programming language, technique or framework e.g., AWS Developer or Acquia Drupal Developer
  • Experience with continual improvement techniques e.g., DMIAC, PDCA or Improvement Kata.
  • Experience with using and producing Open-Source Software.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
