Where we Work
Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

About this role:
As the senior engineering manager on the Globalisation team, you will be leading a team of engineers in the globalisation of the product at Udemy. As we continue to focus on skills and learning outcomes, it is critical to our success that we connect them to assessments and digital credentials that are trustworthy, transferable between organizations, and motivating for the learners. You will help build a team that will lay down the service-oriented foundation for Globalization at Udemy and collaborate with other teams on connecting instructors, learners, and organizations on their skill development journey. We are seeking an analytical and dynamic engineering leader who will collaborate closely with leadership across multiple disciplines to set the vision, guide technical direction, and continue to grow the team.
What you’ll be doing:
Manage and develop a team of software engineers to design and build scalable and flexible service-oriented solutions
Work closely with cross-functional partners to understand, refine, and translate requirements to scalable solutions
Provide hands-on technical guidance and career mentorship for team members
Maintain high-quality standards, effective team processes, and best practices in engineering
Communicate and align plans as well as dependencies to broader Engineering teams
Grow and nourish a culture that values openness, inclusiveness, respect, quality, robustness, scalability, and humility while fostering innovation
We’re excited about you because you will have:
B.S. degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or related technical fields. 12+ years of professional software development experience, including proven seniority in your current company.
6+ years of prior people management experience, including performance reviews, coaching, mentoring, and sprint planning
Experience working closely with Global Engineering teams
Experience working with the Internationalisation of products
A great track record of hiring top talent, mentoring, and growing talent
Strong technical excellence plus experience with owning and shipping substantial product features that support consumer-scale web applications like Udemy.com
Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Parallel execution skills, be able to work with multiple projects, and multiple stakeholders at the same time.
Demonstrated experience driving the architecture, engineering, and software design of large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software applications, databases, tools, systems, and services using microservice architecture, object-oriented design, and distributed programming.
Ability to create a testing strategy and documentation.
Mastery over at least one programming language (Python, Kotlin, Java).
Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker.
Experience with web frameworks (e.g. Django, Spring Boot), ORMs (e.g. Hibernate), RDBMS (e.g. MySQL), and No-SQL (e.g. DynamoDB).
Experience building and consuming internal/external APIs (e.g. GraphQL, REST, gRPC).
Decent knowledge of concurrency, resiliency, and security.
Nice to haves:
Experience working with data processing frameworks and tools, such as Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, etc.
Experience with frontend technologies such as React, NextJS, and TypeScript.
