BAE Systems is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a passion for engineering and the desire to be part of an innovative, dedicated team responsible for testing industry-leading navigation products.
In our Navigation & Sensor Solutions Hardware Engineering department located at a newly constructed facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, you will become part of an Engineering team testing Military GPS products. The team is responsible for running the internal Environmental Effects Engineering lab and provides coordination for off-site qualification testing efforts. This engineering team works closely with all the Hardware Engineering teams at NSS and the external test labs.
The Role: In this role, you will:

  • Perform Environmental Testing for hardware of moderate to high complexity for the Military GPS product line.
  • Participate in cross-functional team efforts ahead of Pre-qualification and Qualification for products.
  • Oversee the creation of Environmental Test Procedures and Test Reports.
  • Utilization of vibration tables, shock tables, HALT and HASS chambers to oversee and perform various Environmental Tests.
  • Coordination of Environmental Testing efforts with various external labs.
  • Support root-cause-analysis and technical investigations for Navigation and Sensor Systems designs.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.
  • Must have 4+ years of experience with a Bachelor's of Science or 2+ years of experience with a Masters of Science degree.
  • Experience with managing thermal and structural test environments including generating procedures and reports.
  • Familiarity with using lab equipment Vibe table, shock table, thermal chambers.
  • Time management skills - ability to work unsupervised, multi-task, and coordinate work.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (US Citizenship Required).


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Previous Environmental Lab experience.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis.
  • Understanding of MIL-STD-810 test procedures and methods.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $83900 - $142600
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
