As a Java Developer on the AWS Mainframe Modernization program, you will help refactor legacy mainframe applications to modern Java using the AWS Transform(Blu Age) refactor approach.
You’ll collaborate with mainframe SMEs to analyse legacy assets (COBOL/JCL/CICS/VSAM/DB2) and harden, extend, and optimize the generated Java/Spring Boot services after the automated code transformation for deployment on AWS.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
1) Legacy Analysis & Refactor Readiness
- Participate in rule extraction and mapping of business processes to target Java services and APIs.
- Support pre-transformation remediation (data types, I/O patterns, batch orchestration) to increase automated conversion quality.
2) AWS Transform Execution
- Collaborate with the AWS team while automated code transformation from COBOL to Java/Spring Boot, JCL to Groovy and CICS to Angular using AWS Transform.
- Review, refactor, and productionize generated Java code (modularity, error handling, performance, resiliency).
- Implement adapters for external integrations (files/queues/DB/transactions), replace mainframe utilities with cloud-native equivalents, and resolve behavioural parity gaps.
3) Java & Microservices Engineering
- Build and enhance RESTful microservices with Java / Spring Boot, Spring Data/JPA, and API-first practices (OpenAPI/Swagger).
- Apply 12‑factor principles, domain decomposition, and strangler pattern for incremental cutover.
- Implement unit/integration tests (JUnit/Mockito/Test containers) and contract tests for service interfaces.
4) AWS Cloud & Platform Integration
- Deploy services using Docker to Amazon ECS/EKS
- Integrate with AWS services: AWS RDS, S3, SQS/SNS, Event Bridge, Secrets Manager.
- Implement observability (CloudWatch, X-Ray/Open Telemetry), structured logging, metrics, and alarms.
5) DevOps, Quality, and Cutover
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/GitHub Actions/AWS Code Pipeline) with quality gates (SAST/DAST, SCA).
- Participate in SIT/UAT, performance testing, and parallel run to validate functional equivalence with the mainframe.
- Support release planning and phased cutover, ensuring rollback and fall-back options.
- BE/BTech/MCA or equivalent
- Work Model: Agile with Morocco time-zone overlap
Required Skills & Experience
- 4–9 years of professional Java development experience.
- Strong in Java 11+, Spring Boot, REST APIs, JPA/Hibernate, and microservices design.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services for application development and deployment (ECS/EKS, API Gateway, RDS, S3, SQS/SNS, CloudWatch).
- Practical understanding of mainframe concepts: COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2; ability to interpret data files, copybooks, and batch flows.
- Experience with Docker, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Solid testing skills (unit, integration, contract tests) and performance optimization.
