About the Team
The team operates as a software product team, using Scrum and DevOps practices to deliver the software solutions needed by our customers for seamless deployment to a true multi-cloud platform.Our challenge is to meet the complex service connectivity, performance and security needs of our services, in a repeatable and predictable manner across our platform. To deliver these requirements at scale, with industry leading uptime and while minimising onboarding and operational friction.
The core technologies used by the Service Communication team today include Kubernetes, Istio and Envoy.

About the Role
At Workday, we don’t just "use" tools; we build the backbone of the enterprise cloud. As a Manager in our Service Communications team, you will be the visionary lead for our Istio Service Mesh strategy across global Kubernetes clusters.
You aren’t just managing a network; you are building "Mesh-as-Code" pipelines that define how our entire distributed system communicates, secures itself, and scales. This is a high-impact leadership role where you will drive the end-to-end automation of multi-cloud environments, enabling thousands of developers to ship code faster and more securely.

About You
Technical Requirements:
Experience: Minimum of 14+ years of relevant experience
Leadership: 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams with a focus on empathy and high performance.
Service Mesh Expert: 3+ years of deep experience with Istio or similar service mesh technologies.
Cloud Veteran: 8+ years in Cloud-based application development (AWS preferred) and 5+ years of hands-on coding (Java, Python, C#, etc.).
Kubernetes Specialist: Proven track record of running server orchestration (Kubernetes/Docker) in large-scale production environments.
Automation Advocate: Strong command of CI/CD principles, Linux, and infrastructure-as-code.
Leadership Mindset:
You view software development as a "team sport."
You can translate complex technical jargon into simple, actionable strategies for any audience.
You are proactive, bold with deadlines, and are passionate about Continuous Innovation.
