About the role

AGL’s Renewables Engineering team are seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer, who would like to be at the forefront of our energy transition to renewables.
The SCADA team is responsible for managing all Operational Technology (OT) control systems across AGL’s Gas & Renewables (GARAS) operations, supporting over 29 sites and growing. This includes end-to-end management of SCADA systems, from sensors and instrumentation to business application integration.
Key responsibilities
You will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in the management, integration, and optimization of SCADA and control systems for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and other GARAS assets. You will ensure the reliable and efficient operation of these critical assets by overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of OT infrastructure, driving innovative solutions, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and cybersecurity requirements.
In addition, you will:
- Support the strategic operating, dispatch, and maintenance philosophies
- Provide SCADA support services to ensure the availability and functionality of BESS systems, including integration with Dispatch Centre operations.
- Perform SCADA system health checks, daily operations monitoring, and change management to maintain system reliability and functionality.
- Act as a SME for major projects, including construction and commissioning phases, ensuring principal requirements are met.
- Configure, operate, and maintain SCADA systems, including telemetry, HMI, distributed control systems, PLC hardware, and data networks, to ensure operational excellence.
- Promote AGL's Life Saving Rules and ensure health, safety, and environmental management are integrated into all operational and project activities.
About you
You will have extensive experience as an Electrical / Control Systems Engineer previously working in a heavy industrial setting associated with SCADA systems. Your knowledge of managing distributed assets and ability to develop & implement strategic operational initiatives will allow you to thrive in this role.
In addition to the above, you will demonstrate:
- A strong understanding of HSE regulations and their application.
- Familiarity with the National Electricity Rules & regulatory frameworks.
- Proven ability to provide technical support and advice to diverse, remote operator teams.
- Proficiency in scoping, specifying and delivering large-scale projects.
- Well-developed communication skills.
- Functional Safety Qualifications are advantageous.
- Tertiary degree in Electrical, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics or similar.
- Possess or be eligible/willing to obtain Chartered Registration with Engineers Australia.
