About the role
AGL’s Gas & Renewables Engineering team are seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer.
The SCADA team is responsible for managing all Operational Technology (OT) control systems across AGL’s entire Gas & Renewables portfolio.
Based in Melbourne, you will be supporting a growing portfolio of assets, including end-to-end management of SCADA systems, from sensors and instrumentation to business application integration.
What you’ll do:
You will provide technical leadership and optimisation of SCADA and control systems for AGL’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and other gas & renewable assets, ensuring reliable operations through innovative solutions and industry-standard compliance.
- Champion strategic operating, dispatch, and maintenance approaches
- Deliver SCADA support services, ensuring system availability and seamless Dispatch Centre integration
- Conduct system health checks, daily monitoring, and change management
- Provide subject matter expertise during major projects, from construction through commissioning
- Configure and maintain SCADA systems, telemetry, HMI, control systems, and data networks
- Embed AGL's Life Saving Rules and HSE practices into all activities
What you’ll bring:
- Tertiary degree in Electrical, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
- Proven experience as an Electrical/Control Systems Engineer in heavy industrial SCADA environments
- Expertise in managing distributed assets and implementing strategic operational initiatives
- Strong HSE regulatory knowledge
- Understanding of National Electricity Rules and regulatory frameworks
- Ability to support and guide diverse, remote operator teams
- Experience scoping and delivering large-scale projects
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Chartered Registration with Engineers Australia (current or obtainable)
- Functional Safety qualifications (desirable)
