Job Description

Senior Supplier Quality & Development Engineer (SQDE) is responsible within India for approval and development of assigned suppliers in line with Rotork group standards. The role provides local support, for export to international Rotork sites.

The SQDE supports global Category strategies by working with the Category Manager to deliver procurement projects. The SDQE will assess potential suppliers, complete onboarding, support development and sample approval activities at the supplier to ensure purchased products meet the requirements of any Rotork sites, and Rotork’s global sustainability objectives.

Responsibilities

As a key member of the Supplier Quality team within the India Procurement team, the Supplier Quality & Development Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Evaluating the H&S, ESG, technical process capabilities and management systems of new suppliers during supplier selection.
  • Plan, organize supplier audits - audit quality management system to verify that quality systems and plans consistently deliver conforming materials. Develop and implement improvement strategies to close identified gaps.
  • Partner with Suppliers, Engineering, and Operations to lead new part development & ensure rapid resolution of technical problems and quality issues. Support suppliers to complete tooling and process “Design For Manufacture” (DFM), and Rotork’s “Sample Approval” (PPAP) process. Implement statistical supplier quality program and yield reporting as required.
  • Use supplier scorecards and data to drive ongoing enhancements in supplier process capability, directly supporting Rotork’s H&S, sustainability, cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
  • Play a pivotal role in Catergory team success, achieving cost targets, quality goals, and supplier base optimization.
  • Lead supplier quality activities for assigned commodities, set and monitor technical/quality metrics, and ensure continuous improvement targets are met.
  • Regular report to management on suppliers quality performance, includes incoming rejection rate, suppliers’ process yield, quality system maintenance, results of on site audit, etc
  • Lead structured problem-solving initiatives to achieve sustainable corrective actions and prevent recurrence.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a proactive, analytical thinker with strong communication skills and the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Supplier Quality Engineering or Supplier Development, with proven success in driving cost and quality improvements.
  • Hands-on experience with Casting (Al, Steel, Cast Iron), forgings, Fabrication and machining supplier processes.
  • Applied expertise in Statistical Process Control (SPC), measurement systems, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Exposure to different global material standards such as ASTM, ISO, BS & API
  • Hands-on experience in NDE processes – Visual inspection, Radiography, Ultrasonic testing & Pressure testing.
  • Experience in metallurgical and mechanical testing of materials including tensile, hardness testing, tensile testing and microstructure examination.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional team and manage supplier/process changes effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally, with regular travel across the India supply base.
  • Preferred candidates with experience operating within a Matrix organizational structure
  • Lean Six Sigma experience is desirable; Six Sigma certification (Green/Black Belt) is preferred
