Software Development Manager

Summary:  

VIAVI Solutions has an exciting opportunity for versatile Senior Software Manager to develop cutting-edge software solutions for our AMS division. The AMS division focuses on analytics, automation, and assurance solutions for communication services providers as part of the VIAVI’s NITRO Platform. This position is a key leadership role that will help VIAVI establish several new application teams in our Chennai location.   The role will include oversight of ongoing projects, and in driving staff hiring and retention. 

Duties/Responsibilities:  

• Staffing for permanent and contract employees  

• Hiring and retaining permanent staff for the AIOps division at the site and developing a relationship with local contracting firms to also facilitate transient hiring as required.  

• Consulting with management and software developers to determine software solution requirements.  

• Evaluating software solutions and system performance, as well as supervising the software development team.  

• Managing the development, deployment, and integration of software solutions.  

• Determining system specifications and analyzing test stage data prior to software installation.  

• Resolving software deployment and integration errors, and documenting processes.  

• Performing routine maintenance and monitoring performance metrics.  

• Keeping abreast of new software technologies, as well as conforming to best practices in cybersecurity. 

Basic Qualifications:  

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, information systems, information technology, or similar.  

• 8-12 years of experience in software development and team management of multiple teams.  

• Proven experience in building strong teams, from scratch. 

• Ability to effectively work multiple recruiting strategies.  

• In-depth knowledge of programming languages such as Java (Microservices, Springboot), JavaScript.  

• Ability to mentor junior software developers, as well as to collaborate with all stakeholders.  

• Extensive experience in developing, deploying, and integrating software solutions.  

• Experience in developing solutions in Graph/NoSql databases. 

• Proficiency in documenting processes and monitoring performance metrics.  

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with some the following: 

• Master's degree in a related field preferred.  

• Experience with full-stack development. 

• Experience with AI/ML application development. 

• Experience in development using Big Data toolstacks. 

• Experience in developing solutions for near real-time/streaming data. 

• Good to have basic Telecom network domain/architecture knowledge.
