Role Definition
Oversees the planning, organization and implementation of multiple and complex digital projects.
Responsibilities • Managing the day-to-day activities of projects, including overseeing project responsibilities and schedules. Developing contingency plans for potential risks. • Directing and motivating project team. • Evaluating and managing deliverables to ensure that service expectations are achievable, developed, and met. • Monitoring project results for significant deviations. Ensuring adherence to quality standards and processes.
Skill Descriptors
Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
Level Working Knowledge: • Contributes to short-term operational plans. • Anticipates and adapts to plan changes. • Monitors progress of work against plan as required to meet objectives. • Reports variances and makes agreed-upon corrections. • Under guidance, develops tactical plan for own direct responsibility.
Project Administration: Knowledge of project administration best practices and ability to use organizational strategies, practices and tools for administering projects.
Level Working Knowledge: • Under guidance, prepares status reports for client management. • Documents initial plans and estimates for simple projects. • Utilizes desired project administration tools. • Documents project meetings, particularly status reports on deliverables and next steps. • Works with such functions as task splitting and project merging.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Level Working Knowledge: • Applies an assigned technique for critical thinking in a decision-making process. • Identifies, obtains, and organizes relevant data and ideas. • Participates in documenting data, ideas, players, stakeholders, and processes. • Recognizes, clarifies, and prioritizes concerns. • Assists in assessing risks, benefits and consideration of alternatives.
Data Gathering and Reporting: Knowledge of tools, techniques and processes for gathering and reporting data; ability to practice them in a particular department or division of a company.
Level Extensive Experience: • Prepares cost-benefit analyses of alternative approaches. • Analyzes complex reports as revealed by the data. • Teaches others the calculations necessary to capture data and develop more complex reports. • Oversees multiple data-gathering and analysis initiatives. • Participates in developing criteria for selecting data gathering and reporting tools and techniques for various projects. • Reviews and verifies data and reports for accuracy.
Implementation: Knowledge of how to run applications for organizations; ability to implement application software within an organization and help end-users perform specific tasks (ex: accounting or graphic design).
Level Working Knowledge: • Tracks problems associated with the quality and effectiveness of application software. • Researches the benefits and drawbacks of an organization's application software. • Drafts application software usage for the department's needs. • Provides instant support for end users of application software. • Implements a specific application software under the supervision of management.
IT Project Control and Reporting: Knowledge of project control and reporting; ability to monitor the vital signs of an IT project while managing its progress and delivery schedule.
Level Working Knowledge: • Tracks issues and potential problems to ensure maximum preparedness for IT projects. • Uses Gantt and PERT/CPM charts to report IT project progress to management and clients. • Revisits and reworks individual work plans to ensure intermediate deadlines are attainable. • Conducts regular ad-hoc progress meetings with IT project teams. • Tracks and reports on the progress made in an IT project team.
IT Project Management: Knowledge of project management; ability to plan, organize, monitor and control IT projects using appropriate technical resources.
Level Extensive Experience: • Controls quality standards and budgeting in an ongoing IT project. • Estimates and appropriately addresses potential issues and risks in IT projects. • Ensures that technical objectives and functional requirements align in all IT projects. • Builds IT related templates for demand analysis and functional reports. • Monitors every step in an IT project to ensure all aspects of the project are delivered on-time. • Directs team members in analyzing client requirements in an appropriate manner.
IT Standards, Procedures & Policies: Knowledge of Information Technology (IT) standards and policies; ability to utilize a variety of administrative skill sets and technical knowledge to manage organizational IT policies, standards, and procedures.
Level Working Knowledge: • Participates in the design of organizational IT infrastructure and policies based on a business analysis. • Assists senior colleagues in identifying critical issues in IT design processes and policies. • Generates status reports for senior management to ensure the implementation of IT policies, standards and procedures. • Executes IT projects or services based on predetermined IT procedures. • Conducts performance reviews on specific technical applications or IT projects.
