The Impact of a Sr. Salesforce Platform Engineer at Coupa:
The Sr. Salesforce Platform Engineer is a critical owner of the operational health, stability, and governance of the Salesforce platform as the core system of record for GTM Systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the platform remains secure, up-to-date, and scalable through disciplined management of Salesforce releases, managed package lifecycle, and system-level enhancements.
This role operates at the intersection of platform operations, architecture alignment, and release governance. Unlike traditional request-driven administration, this position proactively drives platform maintenance, upgrades, and risk reduction initiatives that protect system integrity and enable predictable delivery across Sales, RevOps, and downstream systems.
The individual partners closely with Architects, Tech Leads, and Administrators to ensure Salesforce remains a stable, governed, and high-performing shared platform, with no surprises to stakeholders and no degradation of system reliability.
What You’ll Do
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of Salesforce platform maintenance, including seasonal releases, patch updates, and ad hoc platform changes.
- Manage and execute Salesforce release readiness, including impact analysis, feature evaluation, regression planning, and stakeholder communication.
- Own the lifecycle management of managed packages, including upgrades, compatibility assessments, regression testing, and vendor coordination.
- Proactively identify platform risks related to upgrades, dependencies, and integrations, and drive mitigation plans before issues surface.
- Partner with Architects and Tech Leads to assess the impact of platform changes on integrations, data models, and downstream systems.
- Maintain and execute a structured release calendar for platform updates, ensuring alignment with broader GTM release governance.
- Perform system-level configuration and maintenance that supports platform integrity, performance, and scalability.
- Ensure all platform changes adhere to SDLC standards, release governance, and IT controls, with no direct or unmanaged production updates.
- Drive regression testing coordination across impacted systems and ensure production readiness for all platform changes.
- Maintain detailed documentation of platform configurations, package dependencies, and release impacts.
- Monitor Salesforce platform health, performance, and usage trends, proactively identifying optimization opportunities.
- Partner with Admins and Developers to ensure platform changes do not introduce technical debt or instability.
- Act as a point of escalation for platform-related issues tied to releases, packages, or system-wide changes.
- Stay current with Salesforce platform roadmap, release notes, and ecosystem changes, translating them into actionable plans.
What You Will Bring to Coupa
- 5+ years of experience within the Salesforce ecosystem, with strong exposure to platform administration and operations.
- Proven experience managing Salesforce releases, including seasonal upgrades and regression planning.
- Hands-on experience managing managed packages, including upgrades, configuration, and issue resolution.
- Experience working in environments with multiple integrations and cross-system dependencies.
- Strong understanding of Salesforce platform architecture, configuration, and system behavior.
- Ability to assess platform changes for downstream impact across integrations, data, and business processes.
- Experience with release management, SDLC processes, and governance frameworks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on proactive risk identification.
- Ability to operate independently, drive clarity, and manage ambiguous platform-level work.
- Clear and structured communication skills, especially in translating technical changes into business impact.
- High attention to detail with a focus on system stability and predictability.
- Salesforce Administrator certification required.
- Additional certifications (Advanced Admin, Platform App Builder) preferred.
